VNIT Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur is hiring a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering for an ISRO-funded project. The research focuses on a photonic integrated circuit transmitter and receiver using multiplexed optical channels, polarization modulation and coherent detection methods. This is a specialist optical-communication project, so it suits an electronics researcher who wants practical device-and-system work rather than a broad teaching assignment.

The project brings together integrated photonics, modulation and receiver design within an academic laboratory at VNIT Nagpur. You will work with the principal investigator on technical modelling, experimental planning and research records while learning how an externally funded project is managed. A regular PhD route may also be available if you separately satisfy VNIT Nagpur's doctoral admission rules; the fellowship itself does not automatically guarantee PhD admission.

Your background should let you engage with Electronics and Communication Engineering concepts from the start. A valid GATE score is part of the notified academic profile, while first-class performance or the stated CGPA standard shows the level expected for project work. The role is particularly relevant to candidates interested in optical links, photonic circuits and communication receivers, even though the notice does not list a preferred specialisation beyond the recognised equivalent or related disciplines.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Temporary project role: The initial appointment is for one year and remains tied to the ISRO-funded research project.
  • Extension: Continuation may be allowed for up to three years in total, based solely on satisfactory performance and never beyond the project's end.
  • PhD opportunity: The selected fellow may seek registration in VNIT Nagpur's regular PhD programme, but must meet the institute's separate doctoral eligibility criteria.
  • Shortlisting: Only shortlisted candidates will receive communication by email. Keep the address used in your application active and check its spam folder.
  • Attendance cost: No TA or DA will be paid for attending the assessment or interview at VNIT Nagpur.
  • Final decision: The Director, VNIT Nagpur retains the final decision on the recruitment under the terms stated in the notice.

Application Submission Notes

Prepare your application in the prescribed VNIT format available through the institute's job notice page. Email the completed form and supporting material to anamikasingh@ece.vnit.ac.in; there is no separate application portal for this post. Use a clear subject line naming the JRF and ISRO project so the department can identify your submission.

Before sending, check that your degree details, marks or CGPA and valid GATE information are easy to verify from the attachments. The notice lists the principal investigator's contact number as +91 7506188386 for recruitment-related contact. Keep the sent email and attachment set because further communication will be sent only to shortlisted applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Study photonic integrated circuit transmitter and receiver designs for the ISRO project
  • Model multiplexed optical channels using polarization modulation techniques
  • Support homodyne and heterodyne detection experiments and analysis
  • Set up simulations or laboratory tests and record results accurately
  • Analyse research data and discuss technical findings with the principal investigator
  • Prepare project reports, presentations and research-paper material
  • Maintain organised experiment logs, code, datasets and technical documentation
