UPSC Advt No. 06/2026 Recruitment 2026 - 546 Posts
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Advertisement No. 06/2026 for direct recruitment by selection across many central ministries, defence establishments, health departments and Union Territory administrations. The PDF has 98 separate vacancy numbers, but it is one official advertisement with one application window. The biggest block is medical and specialist posts, followed by administrative, technical, scientific, aviation, faculty and legal posts.
Vacancy Breakdown by Post Group
- Medical, Specialist and AYUSH posts: 280 posts, including Specialist Grade III, Medical Officer, Dental Surgeon and Consultant posts

Who Can Apply?
Medical and Specialist Posts
- Qualification: You need the required MBBS, postgraduate medical degree, diploma, DNB or AYUSH qualification for the specific specialty.
- Experience: Many Specialist Grade III posts need relevant teaching or clinical experience after the first postgraduate qualification.
- Registration: Medical registration and specialty documents must be ready wherever the post requires them.
Engineering, Aviation and Scientific Posts
- Qualification: Posts may need B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech, M.Sc., Ph.D. or subject-specific science qualifications.
- Experience: Aviation, forensic, mining, technical and scientific posts may need post-qualification experience in the relevant field.
- Examples: Operations Officer and Air Safety Officer are under DGCA, while scientific posts cover agriculture, environment, forensic science, mining, hydrology and naval technical work.
Faculty, Legal and Administrative Posts
- Faculty: Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Principal and Lecturer posts need the relevant teaching qualification, research record or subject degree.
- Legal: Assistant Legal Adviser and Assistant Public Prosecutor posts need law qualification and relevant legal experience as stated in the PDF.
- Administrative: Assistant Director, Research Officer, Deputy Director, Assistant Registrar and Private Secretary posts need the listed degree, service, skill or experience for that vacancy number.
Age Limit
- Post-wise upper age limits range from 30 years to 50 years.
- Age cut-off: UPSC will check age and eligibility as on the closing date, 03 July 2026.
- SC/ST: Age relaxation is normally up to 5 years where applicable.
- OBC: Age relaxation is normally up to 3 years where applicable.
- PwBD: Age relaxation is normally up to 10 years where the post is suitable/reserved for PwBD.
- Some vacancy entries already show relaxed upper age for reserved categories, so use the post-wise age printed in the PDF.
Salary
- Pay Level 6 / 6F: starts around Rs. 35,400 per month for lower pay-level posts.
- Pay Level 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12: used for many scientific, technical, legal, medical and administrative posts.
- Academic Level 10, 13A1 and 14: used for faculty posts in the College of Military Engineering and related education roles.
- Highest listed pay level: Academic Level 14, which goes up to about Rs. 2,18,200 per month.
- Selected candidates will also get DA, HRA, transport allowance and other allowances as per Central Government rules. Medical posts with NPA will get it where the PDF says so.
Application Fee
- General / OBC / EWS male candidates: Rs. 25
- SC / ST / PwBD / Women candidates: No fee
- Payment mode: Online through debit card, credit card, UPI or internet banking on the UPSC ORA portal
- Fee once paid is not refunded and cannot be adjusted for another post.
Selection Process
UPSC will use recruitment by selection for these posts. The final process depends on the post and the number of applications received.
- Online Recruitment Application: Fill the ORA form with correct qualification, experience and category details.
- Application Scrutiny: UPSC may shortlist candidates using qualification, higher experience, desirable qualification or other criteria from the advertisement.
- Recruitment Test (if held): UPSC may conduct a Recruitment Test or Combined Recruitment Test when applications are large.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates must attend the UPSC interview with the application printout and original documents.
- Document Verification and Medical Fitness: Final recommendation depends on proof of eligibility, documents and medical fitness where applicable.
