About This Job
The High Court of Tripura is hiring for 1 post in Grade-I of the Tripura Judicial Service through direct recruitment. If you are a law graduate who has practised as an advocate for at least 7 years, you can apply online. The last date to apply is 7 July 2026. This post is reserved for the SC/ST category, but unreserved (UR) candidates can also apply if no suitable reserved candidate is found.
High Court of Tripura Grade-I Judicial Service Recruitment 2026
The High Court of Tripura, Agartala has released Advertisement No. TJS/Grade-I/01/2026 to fill 1 vacancy in Grade-I of the Tripura Judicial Service under the Direct Recruitment Quota. The appointment is made under the Tripura Judicial Service Rules, 2003 in Pay Level J-5 of the New Pay Matrix. The number of posts may go up or down. This is a strong opening for experienced advocates and in-service judicial officers who want to step into the higher judiciary in Tripura. Tripura's judiciary handles a growing number of civil and criminal matters, and Grade-I officers play a key role in delivering timely justice at the district level. Because this is a direct-recruitment post, you do not need to already be in government service — experienced advocates can move straight into the higher judiciary, and the whole process runs online.
Who Can Apply?
There are two ways to be eligible for this post — as a practising advocate or as an in-service judicial officer.
For Advocates
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
- Qualification: You must hold a degree in law from a recognized university.
- Experience: You must be practising as an advocate in courts of civil and criminal jurisdiction on the last date, with at least 7 years of practice as on that date.
For Judicial Officers
- In-service judicial officers who completed 7 years of practice at the Bar before joining the judicial service can apply.
- A judicial officer with a combined 7 years of experience as a judicial officer and an advocate is also eligible.
Government Pleaders, Prosecution Officers and Assistant Prosecution Officers are treated as advocates and must submit a certificate from the competent authority. You will also need a character and length-of-practice certificate from the Principal District & Sessions Judge or the Registrar General.
Age Limit
- You should be between 35 and 45 years old as on 7 July 2026 (the last date for applications).
- Age Relaxation: SC and ST candidates can apply up to 48 years.
Salary
- The post is in Pay Level J-5 of the New Pay Matrix Table-1 under the Tripura Judicial Service Rules, 2003.
- You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as admissible under Tripura Government rules.

Selection Process
Selection is done in two main stages:
- Written Examination (3 Papers, 300 marks): Three papers of 100 marks each, each of at least 2 hours. Paper-I tests general knowledge, aptitude, law comprehension and General English including essay writing. Paper-II has objective questions on major laws such as the Transfer of Property Act, Civil Procedure Code, the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the Indian Evidence Act, the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Limitation Act. Paper-III covers judgment writing, jurisprudence and the Constitution of India. General category candidates who score 60% or more and SC/ST candidates who score 50% or more qualify for the interview.
- Viva Voce (Interview): Carries 50 marks.
- Document Verification: You must produce your original certificates and testimonials for scrutiny before the interview.
Being selected does not automatically give you a right to appointment.

Before you start, keep scanned copies of your law degree, practice certificate, affidavit and category certificate ready so you can upload them without any last-minute stress.

Responsibilities
- Preside over civil and criminal cases in the district judiciary of Tripura
- Hear arguments and decide cases based on law, facts and evidence
- Write clear and reasoned judgments and orders
- Conduct trials and manage day-to-day court proceedings fairly
- Ensure timely disposal of pending cases
- Supervise court staff and subordinate judicial work as assigned
- Uphold the Constitution, the rule of law and judicial ethics

Exam Pattern
The written examination has three papers of 100 marks each, and each paper lasts at least 2 hours. Together the written exam carries 300 marks, followed by a 50-mark viva voce.
Paper-wise Breakdown
- Paper-I (100 marks): General knowledge, aptitude, intelligence, comprehension and expression of law, and General English including essay writing on a legal topic and information technology.
- Paper-II (100 marks): Objective questions on the Transfer of Property Act, Civil Procedure Code, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Indian Evidence Act, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, Indian Penal Code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Limitation Act.
- Paper-III (100 marks): Judgment writing (paper book supplied), legal theories on jurisprudence and the provisions of the Constitution of India.
Viva Voce: 50 marks.
Qualifying Marks: General category candidates need 60% and SC/ST candidates need 50% in the written exam to qualify for the viva voce.
Note: You are expected to refer to relevant Supreme Court and High Court decisions while answering Paper-II and Paper-III.
