About This Job

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) is hiring 1 Project Assistant at its Centre for Animal Health Studies in Chennai. The post is under a Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board funded rabies research project. TANUVAS Project Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS), through its Centre for Animal Health Studies, is filling one Project Assistant post under the project "Rabies Antibody Insight and Surveillance for Elimination (RAISE): a sero-epidemiological survey and oral vaccination programme among community dogs in Chennai", funded by the Tamil Nadu Animal Welfare Board. This is a purely temporary post for the duration of the project and is co-terminus with it. The work involves field sample collection and molecular/serological lab assays, so it suits candidates with a life-science or veterinary background.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • Master's degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture or Technology from a recognized university, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Sciences or Medicine from a recognized university.

Desirable Qualification (Preferred)

  • A Master's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering or related life-science disciplines, or an M.V.Sc in Veterinary Microbiology / Animal Biotechnology.
  • Experience in microbiology or molecular biology will be given preference.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit is 35 years.
  • You must bring valid proof of age (original) to the walk-in interview.

Salary

  • You will get a monthly pay of Rs. 27,000 plus 24% HRA.
  • The pay is a consolidated project amount and continues for the duration of the project.

Selection Process

Selection is done on the same day in two steps:

  1. Written Screening Test: All eligible candidates take a one-hour written screening test.
  2. Interview: Only candidates who are shortlisted from the screening test move on to the interview.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.

Responsibilities

  • Collect field samples from community dogs during the rabies surveillance survey
  • Perform molecular and serological laboratory assays for rabies antibody testing
  • Support the oral vaccination programme among community dogs in Chennai
  • Record, enter, and manage survey and laboratory data accurately
  • Maintain lab samples, reagents, and follow biosafety guidelines
  • Prepare progress notes and reports for the project team
  • Assist the project investigators with day-to-day field and lab activities

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Qualification

Master's degree in Life Sciences, Agriculture or Technology from a recognized university, OR Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Sciences or Medicine from a recognized university.

Preferred Qualification

Master's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering or related life-science disciplines, or M.V.Sc in Veterinary Microbiology / Animal Biotechnology; experience in microbiology or molecular biology.
