The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is filling one post of Member, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) at New Delhi on a deputation basis. This is a Joint Secretary-level position in Level 14 of the Pay Matrix, with a salary range of Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 per month. Only serving Central Government officers (including All India Services and Central Group 'A' Services) who meet the eligibility criteria can apply, through their parent department, by 21 July 2026.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Member Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post (Deputation)

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Department of Personnel and Training) issued this Office Memorandum on 21 May 2026 to fill the one post of Member, Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi. This is not a direct recruitment open to the general public - only Central Government officers who are nominated and forwarded by their own Ministry, Department, or State Government can apply. The notice has been circulated to all Central Ministries/Departments and State Governments/UTs, including the Government of Sikkim, so that eligible officers under them can be identified and their applications forwarded through proper channel.

The Staff Selection Commission is a central government body that conducts recruitment examinations for various Group B and Group C posts across ministries and departments - such as SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS, and CPO. As a Member of the Commission, you would be part of its top decision-making body at the Joint Secretary level, working alongside the Chairman and other Members on policy, examination matters, and overall governance of the Commission.

Deputation postings like this allow experienced officers to bring their expertise to specialized central bodies for a fixed period before returning to their parent cadre, or continuing until superannuation as explained below. This route is commonly used by the Government of India to staff apex bodies such as the SSC, UPSC, and various regulatory commissions with officers who already have deep administrative experience.

  • Tenure: If selected, you will hold office for five years or until you turn 62 years old, whichever is earlier. If you are a serving officer, you will remain on deputation until superannuation and may then be considered for an extension on re-employment terms, subject to the same upper age limit and tenure.
