SSC is hiring 84 Hindi and Translation Officers across central government ministries and departments through the Combined Hindi Translators Examination 2026. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Hindi Translators Examination (CHTE) 2026, covering Group 'B' Non-Gazetted posts in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India. 84 tentative vacancies have been notified across four post codes — from Junior Translation Officers in the Central Secretariat Official Language Service to Senior Hindi Translators in central government offices. This is a direct recruitment exam open to graduates with strong Hindi-English translation skills.

Who Can Apply?
For Post Codes A, B, C (Junior Posts — Level-6):
- Master's degree from a recognised University in Hindi with English as a compulsory/elective subject or as medium of examination, OR
- Master's degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or as medium of examination, OR
- Master's degree in any subject (other than Hindi or English) with Hindi medium and English as compulsory/elective subject, OR
- Master's degree in any subject with English medium and Hindi as compulsory/elective subject, OR
- Master's degree in any subject with Hindi and English as compulsory/elective subjects or either as medium
- AND a Recognised Diploma/Certificate in Translation from Hindi to English and vice versa, OR two years' experience of translation work (Hindi to English and vice versa) in a Central/State Government Office or Government of India Undertaking
For Post Code D (Senior Posts — Level-7):
- Same Master's degree qualification as above
- AND a Recognised Diploma/Certificate in Translation, OR three years' experience of translation work (Hindi to English and vice versa) in a Central/State Government Office or Government of India Undertaking
Note: Only male candidates are eligible for vacancies, if any reported, in the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
All qualifications must be possessed as on 01.08.2026.
Age Limit
- You should be between 18 and 30 years old as on 01 August 2026 (born not before 02-08-1996 and not later than 01-08-2008).
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation (up to 35 years)
- OBC: 3 years relaxation (up to 33 years)
- PwBD (UR): 10 years relaxation (up to 40 years)
- PwBD (OBC): 13 years relaxation (up to 43 years)

- Senior Posts (Code D — SHT/ST/STO): Pay Level-7 — entry pay of Rs. 44,900 per month, going up to Rs. 1,42,400
- Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules

Selection Process
Selection happens in two stages:
- Paper-I — Computer Based Examination (Objective Type): 200 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours (with sectional timer of 1 hour each for Part-I and Part-II).
- Part-I: General Hindi — 100 questions, 100 marks
- Part-II: General English — 100 questions, 100 marks
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer
- Based on Paper-I scores, candidates are shortlisted (category-wise) for Paper-II
- Paper-II — Descriptive (Translation and Essay): 200 marks in 2 hours
- Translation passage from Hindi to English
- Translation passage from English to Hindi
- An Essay each in Hindi and English
- Tests translation skills and ability to write/comprehend both languages correctly
- Document Verification: Conducted by User Departments/Organizations after final result
How to Apply
- Go to the SSC portal at ssc.gov.in.
- Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) if you haven't already. The old ssc.nic.in OTR will not work on the new website.
- Log in and fill the online application form for Combined Hindi Translators Examination 2026.
- Upload your photograph (taken live via the application module) and scanned signature (JPEG/JPG, 10–20 KB).
- Pay the application fee online (if applicable).
- Submit the form and keep a printout for your records.

Responsibilities
- Translate official documents, reports, and correspondence from Hindi to English and English to Hindi
- Prepare Hindi versions of government notifications, circulars, and orders
- Assist in implementing the Official Language Policy of the Government of India
- Review and edit translations prepared by other staff for accuracy and clarity
- Handle Hindi correspondence and maintain translation records in the department
- Participate in Hindi workshops, meetings, and official language committees
- Support senior officers in drafting bilingual communications and reports
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Hindi or English (with the other as compulsory/elective subject) with Diploma/Certificate in Translation or 2 years' translation experience (3 years for Senior posts)
Preferred Qualification
Recognised Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa

Shortlisted candidates appear for Paper-II, a Descriptive paper (200 marks, 2 hours) covering translation and essay writing in Hindi and English. Final selection is followed by Document Verification.
