SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 - LDC, JSA, PA, SA, DEO Posts
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination every year to fill thousands of Group C posts in different central government ministries, departments and offices. The CHSL 2026 notification covers five major posts — Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO). The total vacancy will be notified separately by SSC; based on recent years, 3000+ posts are expected. The exam is computer-based and held in English and 12+ regional languages.

- Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level 2 — across various central government ministries, departments and subordinate offices
- Postal Assistant (PA) / Sorting Assistant (SA): Pay Level 4 — in Department of Posts, India Post offices
- Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level 4 — in different ministries and departments
- Data Entry Operator, Grade A: Pay Level 4 — in Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG)

Who Can Apply?
For LDC / JSA, PA / SA, DEO (most posts):
- You must have passed 12th Class (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised Board or University.
For DEO in C&AG / Ministry of Consumer Affairs / Ministry of Culture:
- You must have passed 12th Class with Science stream and Mathematics as one of the subjects from a recognised Board.
Other Requirements:
- Nationality: You must be an Indian Citizen as defined in the SSC notification.
- Computer Knowledge: Required for DEO post — minimum data entry speed of 8,000 Key Depressions per hour on Computer.
- Typing Test: LDC / JSA candidates need a typing speed of 35 words per minute in English OR 30 wpm in Hindi.
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Maximum age: 27 years (as on the cut-off date in the official notification)
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST — 5 years, OBC — 3 years, PwBD — 10 years (UR) / 13 years (OBC) / 15 years (SC/ST). Ex-Servicemen and other categories as per Government of India rules.
Salary
- Pay Level 2: Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month (for LDC / JSA)
- Pay Level 4: Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100 per month (for PA, SA, DEO and DEO Grade A)
- You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process
Selection is done in two tiers (plus skill test where required):
- Tier 1 (Computer Based Examination): Objective MCQ with 100 questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes. Four sections — General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language. Negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
- Tier 2 (Computer Based Examination + Skill / Typing Test): Held for candidates who clear Tier 1. Includes objective papers in Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning, English, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge, plus a Skill Test (for DEO) or Typing Test (for LDC, JSA, PA, SA).
- Document Verification — for finally selected candidates.

Responsibilities
- Handle dealing and file processing work in central government offices
- Maintain office records, registers, and important files in proper order
- Prepare letters, reports, and noting sheets for senior officers
- Enter and update data in government software systems (especially for DEO posts)
- Sort and process mail, parcels, and dak (for Postal and Sorting Assistant posts)
- Assist senior officers in routine administrative and clerical work
- Follow office procedures and rules of the assigned ministry / department

Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL is conducted in two tiers followed by a Skill Test / Typing Test.
Tier 1 (Computer Based Examination)
The Tier 1 paper has 100 questions for 200 marks. You will get 60 minutes (80 minutes for PwBD candidates with scribe) to complete it.
- General Intelligence: 25 questions (50 marks)
- General Awareness: 25 questions (50 marks)
- Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill): 25 questions (50 marks)
- English Language (Basic Knowledge): 25 questions (50 marks)
Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
Exam Language: English, Hindi and 13 regional languages.
Exam Type: Objective (MCQ), Computer Based.
Tier 2 (Computer Based Examination + Skill / Typing Test)
Tier 2 has three sections spread over two sessions. It includes Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language, General Awareness, and a Computer Knowledge Module. The Skill Test (for DEO) and Typing Test (for LDC / JSA / PA / SA) are also conducted as part of Tier 2.
