Ship Building Centre, Visakhapatnam (SBC), a work centre under the Ministry of Defence (R&D), has released Advertisement No. 3201/2026 for 9 General Central Service Group 'C' posts. The recruitment covers technical trades like Fitter and Electrician along with driving posts for the fire engine and civilian transport sections. There is no separate skill or endurance test for the Fitter and Electrician posts — selection is based purely on the written exam. Candidates with an ITI background or a heavy vehicle driving license should apply.

These posts carry an All India Service liability, meaning you could be transferred to any SBC establishment as per organisational needs. Promotional avenues will be governed by the applicable Recruitment Rules and Government of India orders issued from time to time. Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates is available as per government norms, and horizontal reservation applies for PwBD and Ex-Servicemen categories within each vertical category.

You can choose up to 3 examination city preferences during registration. SBC reserves the right to reallocate candidates to a different city if too many candidates opt for the same centre, so keep your preferences flexible.

Who Can Apply?

For Construction Assistant 'A' (Fitter):

• 10th pass (SSC) under the 10+2 system
• ITI / National Apprentice Certificate (NAC) in the Fitter trade
• 2 years of experience in the Fitter trade

For Construction Handler (Electrician):

• 10th pass (SSC) under the 10+2 system
• ITI certificate from a recognised institute in the Electrician trade

For Fire Engine Driver and Civilian Motor Transport Driver (Ordinary Grade):

• 10th pass and a valid Driving License for Heavy Vehicles

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 27 years old as on the closing date for online applications (14 September 2026).
• Age Relaxation: ST candidates get 5 years relaxation (for reserved posts only); PwBD candidates get 10 years relaxation.
• Departmental Candidates: Up to 40 years (45 years for ST) with 3 years of regular continuous service in Central Government.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200 per month under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process

The selection has 3 stages for Fitter and Electrician posts, and 4 stages for Fire Engine Driver and Motor Transport Driver posts:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): 100 objective questions for 100 marks in 120 minutes, bilingual (Hindi/English) except the General English section.
2. Endurance Test / Skill Test (only for Fire Engine Driver and Civilian Motor Transport Driver, qualifying in nature): candidates are shortlisted at a 1:15 ratio based on CBT merit.

The Fitter and Electrician written exam tests General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and Trade Syllabus knowledge, while the Driver posts' exam tests General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and General English. Minimum qualifying marks are 35% for UR, 30% for OBC, and 25% for all other categories. Final merit for Fitter and Electrician posts is based purely on CBT marks. For Fire Engine Driver and Motor Transport Driver posts, merit is based on CBT marks subject to qualifying in the Endurance/Skill Test.

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain plant equipment, pressure vessels, and pipe work (Fitter)
