RRB JE and DMS Recruitment 2026 — 3993 Vacancies

Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) have released CEN No. 04/2026 for 3,993 vacancies of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) across Indian Railways. If you have a relevant diploma or degree in engineering, you can apply online. The last date to apply is 13 September 2026. You must be between 18 and 33 years old, and the starting salary is Rs. 35,400 per month under Pay Level 6.

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB), under the Ministry of Railways, have issued Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 to fill 3,993 posts of Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent across various RRBs and railway zones/production units in India. This is one of the biggest technical recruitment drives by Indian Railways this year. Diploma and degree holders in Civil, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical engineering (and allied trades) can apply, based on the exam group they qualify for. The indicative notice for this CEN was published in Employment News on 25 July 2026, and the detailed CEN is available on the official websites of all RRBs.

Vacancy Breakdown

• Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent (combined): 3,993 posts under Pay Level 6

The detailed RRB-wise and Railway Zone/Production Unit-wise distribution of vacancies is given in Annexure B of the official CEN, and post-wise eligibility parameters are listed in Annexure A. Vacancies are provisional and may increase or decrease based on the requirement of Railway Administrations. You can apply to only one RRB and must indicate your preferences for Railway Zones and posts within that RRB — multiple applications to different RRBs will lead to rejection of all your applications.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need a diploma or degree in Civil, Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering (or an allied discipline), as detailed post-wise in Annexure A of the CEN
• You can choose any one Exam Group — Civil & Allied, Electrical & Allied, Electronics & Allied, or Mechanical & Allied Engineering — based on your qualification
• If you hold more than one qualification mapped to different exam groups, you can pick any one exam group and remain eligible for all posts under it
• Reservation benefits apply as per government norms for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/EBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen candidates; you must have the requisite certificates in the prescribed format to claim these benefits
• Candidates awaiting final results of their qualifying exam are not eligible to apply.

Age Limit

• You should be between 18 and 33 years old as on 1 January 2027.
• Age Relaxation: Applicable as per RRB rules for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen candidates.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a starting salary of Rs. 35,400 per month, going up to Rs. 1,12,400, under Pay Level 6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Railway Board rules.

Selection Process

The selection process has 3 stages:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): Dates will be announced later on the official RRB websites.
2. Document Verification: Your Educational Qualification, Age, Caste/Category certificates will be checked at this stage.
3. Medical Examination: You must meet the prescribed medical standards for your chosen post.

Your eligibility is treated as provisional at the time of application — if any claim you make is not backed by documents during verification, your candidature can be cancelled at any stage of the recruitment process, or even after appointment.

How to Apply

1. Go to the official RRB application portal at rrbapply.gov.in.
2. Create an account (or log in if you already have one from an earlier RRB CEN) — these account details cannot be modified later, so fill them carefully.
3. Choose your RRB, preferred Railway Zones, and post/exam group.
4. Fill in the online application form, complete live photo capture, and upload the mandatory scanned documents.
5. Pay the application fee online.
6. Submit the form before the deadline and note your registration details for future reference.

If you need help, Common Service Centres are available to assist with the online application. Candidates who need a scribe must provide scribe details in the application portal during the specified window.

• Inspect and maintain railway tracks, signals, or electrical/mechanical assets as per your engineering discipline
• Supervise maintenance and repair work carried out by field staff and contractors
• Prepare technical reports, estimates, and inspection records
• Ensure safety standards and quality control on assigned railway sections
• Coordinate with senior engineers for planning and execution of works
• Manage stock, materials, and depot inventory (for Depot Material Superintendent posts)
• Attend to breakdowns and emergency repair situations promptly
• Maintain proper documentation for audits and compliance
