Punjab NHM House Surgeon Recruitment 2026 — 523 Vacancies

The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab (E-4 Branch) has released a public notice to fill 523 House Surgeon posts (district-wise breakup given in Annexure A) for a period of six months across various District Hospitals and Sub Divisional Hospitals in Punjab, covering the August 2026 to January 2027 session. These House Jobs cover general, emergency and specialized duties - they are not restricted to a single specialty. This is a common, state-wide advertisement issued by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, from its office at Kayan Bhawan, Sector 34-A, Chandigarh. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: MBBS from a recognized university.
• Foreign Medical Graduates: Must have cleared the screening test conducted by the National Board of Examinations.
• Registration: You must be registered with the Punjab Medical Council / Medical Council of India / National Medical Commission. Keep your registration certificate ready, as it will be checked at the time of counselling.
• Language: You must have passed Punjabi at Matric level or an equivalent examination, as per the latest instructions of the Punjab Government.

Age Limit

• Your age must be less than 37 years to apply for this post.
• You must be physically and mentally fit as per the standards prescribed for entry into government medical service.
• No specific age relaxation for any reserved category has been mentioned in this notification.

Salary

• Selected House Surgeons get a fixed pay of Rs. 70,000 per month for the 6-month tenure. This is a fixed remuneration set by the Punjab Government, not a regular pay scale with allowances.
• No TA/DA is paid for journeys undertaken for counselling or interview.
• You are eligible for one paid leave per month. Any leave beyond this is without pay and extends your tenure by the same number of days before you can claim your completion certificate.

Application Fee

No application fee has been mentioned in the notification, so submitting your online application is free. However, you separately need to deposit a security of Rs. 20,000 before joining duty. This security is refundable on successful completion of your term, but it is forfeited - and no completion certificate is issued - if you leave before finishing the full term or are discharged for unsatisfactory conduct.

Selection Process

The selection is done as follows. This is a merit-based process aimed at filling all 523 posts quickly for the upcoming session, so make sure the qualification, registration and marks details in your application are accurate and complete:

1. Merit List: Candidates are ranked priority-wise, based on the percentage of marks obtained in the professional MBBS examination. Candidates in the next priority are considered only after all candidates in the previous priority are exhausted or already placed.
2. District-wise Counselling: Held at 10:00 AM on 28 July 2026 at the respective District Civil Surgeon office, based on the candidate's first preferred district filled in the online application. Carry your original certificates and marksheets, since your eligibility will be checked at this stage.
3. Document Verification and Joining: You must submit your joining within one week of the batch start date, failing which the next candidate on the waiting list is invited. Before joining, you must also affirm in writing that you are not bonded to service of the State/Central Government - bonded candidates need a No Objection Certificate from the Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab or the Director, Health and Family Planning, Punjab.

Reservation will be applicable as per Punjab Government rules, and the number of posts may increase or decrease without prior notice.
