PGIMER Optometrist cum Field Investigator Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh has invited applications for the post of Optometrist cum Field Investigator on a purely contractual basis under the Department of Hematology. PGIMER is one of India's premier Institutes of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, recognised for advanced patient care, medical education, and research. This is a temporary research-project position that does not give any right to claim regular employment at PGIMER. Optometry graduates with patient-care and field-survey experience can apply.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree in Optometry (B.Optom / B.Sc Optometry) from a recognised university or institute.
• Diploma in Optometry will not be accepted in place of the degree.

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in optometry practice or field investigation work.
• Experience in community-based research, hospital optometry, or large-scale eye-care field surveys is desirable.
• Experience in handling refraction, slit-lamp examination, and basic ocular tests is preferred.

Other Requirements

• Good communication skills in English and Hindi.
• Willingness to travel for field work across Chandigarh and adjoining areas as part of the research project.
• Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel) for data entry and report preparation.
• Punjabi language skills are an added advantage for community interaction.

Age Limit

• The age limit, if any, will be as per the PGIMER recruitment rules and the project-specific terms mentioned in the notification PDF.
• Age relaxation for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) will be applicable as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• Consolidated monthly salary: Rs. 20,000 per month
• No other allowances, HRA, DA, or benefits are payable — this is a fixed contract amount.
• Engagement is purely contractual under the research project and does not entitle you to any regular service or permanent benefits at PGIMER.
• The duration of engagement is co-terminus with the research project and may be extended based on performance and project requirements.

Selection is done in the following stages:
