NVS is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, running fully residential, co-educational Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas that cover classes 6 to 12 across the country. For the 2026-27 academic session, the Regional Office at Chandigarh is engaging Counsellors on contract to support students' academic and emotional well-being in JNVs spread across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (UT), Ladakh (UT), and Chandigarh (UT). Both male and female candidates are welcome to apply for this role, which is well suited to psychology postgraduates who want to work in a residential school environment.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's Degree (M.A./M.Sc.) in Psychology from a recognized university or institution, AND a one-year Diploma in Guidance & Counselling from a recognized university or institution.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience in Guidance & Counselling in a recognized school or educational institute.
• Desirable Certifications: Certificate courses in areas such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy skills, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioural issues and learning difficulties, building emotional intelligence and resilience, or Adolescence Education will strengthen your application and earn extra marks during shortlisting.

Age Limit

• You should be above 28 years and below 50 years old as on 01 May 2026.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a fixed monthly consolidated remuneration of Rs. 44,900.
• As this is a contract engagement, the pay is a consolidated amount rather than a regular pay scale with separate DA/HRA/TA.

Selection Process

NVS will select Counsellors through the following process:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are scored on their essential, additional, and desirable qualifications out of a total of 70 marks.
2. Personal Talk (Interview): Only shortlisted candidates are called for a Personal Talk with the NVS Regional Office, Chandigarh, and are informed by email.
3. Document Verification: You must bring your original documents for verification at the time of the Personal Talk. Only documents submitted at the time of application are accepted for verification, and candidates found ineligible during verification will not be allowed to appear for the Personal Talk.

• Provide academic and personal counselling support to students in classes 6 to 12
• Identify students facing behavioural, emotional, or learning difficulties and support them
• Conduct individual and group counselling sessions as needed
• Guide senior students on career planning and higher education options
• Coordinate with teachers and hostel wardens on student well-being
• Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions
• Organise awareness sessions on adolescence education and emotional resilience
