National Testing Agency (NTA) General Manager - Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Testing Agency (NTA), the autonomous body under the Ministry of Education that conducts JEE (Main), NEET (UG), UGC-NET, CUET, CMAT, GPAT and other major national exams for crores of candidates every year, has released a notification for 1 General Manager - Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics. You will head NTA's internal vigilance, investigation, and digital forensics function, leading enquiries into paper leaks, impersonation networks, mass-copying rackets, and coaching-mafia operations, in line with the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. You will operate as NTA's senior-most investigation officer, report to the Director General, and act as the principal interface with the CBI, Intelligence Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, State Police, and Cyber-crime units on examination-related cases. This role suits senior investigation officers from CBI, IB, ED, State Police, or PSU vigilance backgrounds who want to protect the integrity of India's biggest entrance exams.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: Graduate degree from a recognised university. A Post-Graduate qualification in Law (LL.M.), Public Administration, Forensic Science, Criminology, Cyber Security, or an allied discipline is a strong advantage. A Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.) is highly desirable.
  • Experience: You need at least 15 years of post-qualification experience in investigation, vigilance, intelligence, law-enforcement, digital forensics, or anti-fraud functions, with at least 5 years at a senior leadership level (Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Inspector General, Joint Director/Director rank in a central investigation or intelligence agency, or Chief Vigilance Officer in a large public-sector organisation).
  • Track Record: You should have demonstrated experience leading complex multi-jurisdiction investigations involving evidence collection, witness handling, prosecution support, and inter-agency coordination.
  • Desirable: Prior experience in CBI, IB, ED, State CID, Police IPS cadre, or as a senior vigilance officer; experience as a Chief Vigilance Officer in a Central Government Ministry, autonomous body, or PSU; knowledge of digital forensics and familiarity with the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, IT Act 2000, Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, and CVC manuals; experience representing the prosecution before trial courts, High Courts, and the Supreme Court.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong investigative mindset — ability to follow leads patiently, build a case methodically, and preserve evidence with rigour
  • Excellent legal acumen covering evidence law, criminal procedure, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024
  • Outstanding inter-agency coordination skills across central and state law-enforcement, intelligence, and vigilance bodies
  • Discretion, integrity, and judgement of the highest order to handle highly classified information
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including drafting case files, complaints, FIRs, and prosecution submissions

Age Limit

  • You should preferably be below 60 years as on the last date of application.
  • Age Relaxation: May be considered for candidates with strong investigation, intelligence, or vigilance backgrounds.

Salary

  • You get a consolidated monthly remuneration, decided based on your qualifications, experience, and industry benchmarks. NTA states the package will be competitive and negotiable for exceptional candidates.

Selection Process

The selection has three stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Based on your qualifications, experience, and suitability for the role. NTA reserves the right to fix suitable shortlisting criteria and limit the number of candidates called for interview.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for a personal interview before a Selection Committee.
  3. Background Verification: NTA carries out comprehensive background and integrity verification before making any offer.

The decision of the Selection Committee is final and binding. Meeting the minimum qualifications and experience does not automatically entitle you to an interview call.
