About This Job

NIT Warangal is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for a 3-year research project sponsored by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India. If you have a B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering with First Class, you can apply by email before 30 April 2026. The fellowship is Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year. There is also an opportunity to register for a Ph.D. degree at NIT Warangal as per institute rules.

NIT Warangal JRF Recruitment 2026 — 1 Post

National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) has released Advertisement No. NITW/CED/TD/CATTS/11-JRF/2026 for the recruitment of one Junior Research Fellow under the project titled "Advanced Transport Modelling and Simulation for National Highways in India". This is a joint project involving the Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE), IIT Roorkee, University of New South Wales (Australia), and NIT Warangal, funded by MoRTH, Government of India. The project focuses on developing a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) macro model for the National Highway Network and building Indian-specific urban pervasive data models. Civil Engineering graduates and postgraduates with an interest in transportation research should apply.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

  • B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering with First Class/Division from a recognised university

Desirable Qualification

  • ME/M.Tech in Transportation Engineering or M.Planning with First Class/Division
  • GATE Qualified (desirable, not mandatory for application)

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of Travel Demand Models
  • Experience with Traffic simulation models
  • Proficiency in Travel behaviour modelling
  • Good analytical ability and strong writing skills
  • Programming skills: C++, Python, GIS

Note: Candidates with ME/M.Tech/M.Planning with GATE qualification and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a valid GATE score are eligible for Ph.D. registration at NIT Warangal, subject to institute rules.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 30 years
  • Age relaxation is applicable as per NITW institute rules for Ph.D. registration

Fellowship / Salary

  • First two years: Rs. 37,000 per month
  • Third year (based on performance): Rs. 42,000 per month
  • Selected candidates are encouraged to register for a Ph.D. degree at NIT Warangal as an additional benefit

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 2 stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on academic qualifications and relevant experience. The list of shortlisted candidates will be published on the NIT Warangal website and communicated via email.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will attend an interview (online or offline). No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the objectives of the MoRTH-sponsored research project on Advanced Transport Modelling
  • Conduct field data collection related to transport and traffic behaviour
  • Perform numerical analysis using C++, Python, and GIS tools
  • Develop and test traffic simulation and travel demand models
  • Build and calibrate Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) macro models for the National Highway Network
  • Prepare detailed research reports and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with partner institutions including IIT Roorkee, IAHE, and University of New South Wales
