National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar) JRF Chemistry Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post
NIT Silchar, an Institute of National Importance located in Assam, has issued an extended notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow position (Advertisement No. NITS/Dean(R&C)/Chemistry/717/01/2026 dated 30 June 2026) under a project sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), sanction number ANRF/ECRG/2025/002592/CS. Since this is an extension of the original advertisement, you now get additional time to apply if you missed the earlier deadline. The project, titled "Rational Computational Engineering of Chiral Frustrated Lewis Pairs for High-Efficiency Asymmetric Imine Hydrogenation," is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Shanti Gopal Patra, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. In simple terms, the research uses computational chemistry methods to design catalyst molecules that produce chiral compounds efficiently — work that's relevant to pharmaceutical and fine chemical synthesis. The position runs for 3 years, with continuation reviewed every 12 months based on performance, making it a solid research opportunity for chemistry postgraduates interested in computational and theoretical chemistry.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: MSc in Chemistry or BS-MS in Chemistry, along with a valid NET or GATE qualification
- Desirable Experience: Basic knowledge of physical or theoretical chemistry; prior knowledge of DFT (Density Functional Theory) calculations is an advantage but not compulsory
Age Limit
- You should be below 28 years of age.
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC/Women/PwD candidates get relaxation as per Government of India rules.
Salary
- You will get Rs. 37,000 per month as JRF for the first two years, and Rs. 42,000 per month as SRF in the third year.
- HRA at 10% of the fellowship amount is paid if Institute accommodation is not provided.
Selection Process (No Written Exam)
This is a research-oriented engagement, so there is no written exam. Selection depends entirely on your qualifications and how you perform in the interview:
