NIT Nagaland JRF and Project Associate Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Nagaland (NIT Nagaland) is building a small research team for an ANRF-funded project on IoT and deep-learning-based landslide monitoring. The project aims to develop an early-warning approach using V2X communication for hilly terrain, placing the roles at the intersection of computing, electronics, communication and environmental observation. You can choose among JRF, Project Associate-I and Project Associate-II profiles according to your degree and research background.

The work is based at the institute's Chumukedima campus in Nagaland under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. It is a practical research setting where sensor-connected systems, image processing and communication technologies may be brought together around a real environmental-risk problem. Applicants with GATE or NET credentials receive preference, and the notice also points to a possible PhD opportunity at the institute.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Junior Research Fellow: A postgraduate engineering research role for candidates from computing, information technology, electrical, communication, electronics or a related field.
  • Project Associate-I: An entry project role open to relevant engineering graduates and specified computing, geography, GIS, remote-sensing, geo-informatics, earth-observation or earth-science postgraduates with knowledge of the project area.
  • Project Associate-II: An experienced project role for engineering graduates who have already worked in research and development within an industrial, academic, scientific or technology organisation.

Post-wise Duties

Junior Research Fellow

You will contribute to the project's core research, connect technical literature with experiments, and help test IoT, image-processing and communication approaches for landslide observation. You may also prepare research outputs with the project investigator.

Project Associate-I

You will support system development, data handling and field-linked research tasks across the monitoring and early-warning workflow. Depending on your discipline, your focus may be software, sensing, communication or geospatial information.

Project Associate-II

You will use your prior research experience to take greater ownership of technical implementation, testing and documentation. You may also help coordinate work across the engineering and environmental parts of the project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract basis: The appointments are temporary and linked to the research project rather than regular institute service.
  • Renewal: The institute may renew an appointment every six months or year based on satisfactory performance and project continuation.
  • Project limit: The engagement cannot continue beyond the completion of the funded project.
  • Travel: The institute will not provide TA or DA for attending the interview.
  • Institute decision: The principal investigator may fill, leave unfilled or cancel a position, and the project decision is final.
  • Research pathway: A selected person may get an opportunity to enrol in the institute's PhD programme, subject to institute rules.
