NIT Meghalaya is hiring 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) for an ANRF-sponsored research project in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. If you have an M.Tech/M.E., M.Sc. with GATE/NET, or a GATE-qualified B.Tech/B.E. (CGPA above 8.0) in a relevant discipline, you can apply by email. The last date to apply is 17 August 2026. The fellowship pays Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year.

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) JRF Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) is an Institute of National Importance located at Sohra (Cherrapunji) in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, offering B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programmes. The institute has released an advertisement for 1 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)-sponsored project "Development of Minimally Invasive Printed Electrochemical Sensors for Personalized Levodopa Dose Optimization in Parkinson's Disease", led by Principal Investigator Dr. Bibhas Manna, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The project runs for 36 months, and the selected fellow can also register for a PhD as per institute norms. The research aims to develop low-cost, minimally invasive printed sensors that can help doctors personalize Levodopa dosage for Parkinson's disease patients, so this is a good opportunity for candidates interested in semiconductor sensors, quantum simulation and device physics research with real clinical impact. Working under an ANRF-funded project also gives you exposure to a nationally-reviewed research grant, which is valuable if you plan to pursue a PhD or an academic research career afterwards.

Who Can Apply?

You can qualify for this JRF position through any one of these three routes:

  • Route 1 (M.Tech/M.E.): An M.Tech/M.E. in Nanoelectronics, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Sensors or a related discipline, along with experience in semiconductor devices/sensors and quantum simulation.
  • Route 2 (M.Sc. with GATE/NET): An M.Sc. in Chemistry or Physics with a valid GATE or NET score.
  • Route 3 (GATE-qualified B.Tech/B.E.): A GATE-qualified B.Tech/B.E. with a CGPA above 8.0 in Electronics and Communication Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Required Knowledge: Whichever route you come from, you should understand semiconductor physics and first-principle simulation/Density Functional Theory (DFT), since this is core to the project's simulation work.
  • Preferred Skills: Hands-on experience with DFT calculations, quantum/atomistic simulation tools such as QE, SIESTA and CP2K, basic programming and scientific computing, and NEGF-DFT transport simulation using PyTorch will count strongly in your favour during shortlisting.
  • Research Focus: You will work on printed electrochemical sensor design combined with computational modelling, so a genuine interest in both hands-on device fabrication and theoretical simulation will help you make the most of this fellowship.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years, rising to Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year.
  • The fellowship continues for a maximum of 3 years or until the project ends, whichever is earlier.
  • Institute hostel accommodation may be provided as per institute norms.
  • Your performance will be assessed on a regular basis during the fellowship period.

Selection Process

Selection is through a single online interview — there is no written exam:

  1. Screening of Applications: The institute shortlists candidates based on qualifications, academic record and relevant experience. Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call.
  2. Online Interview: Tentatively scheduled for 24 August 2026 at 10:00 AM. The interview link will be shared with shortlisted candidates in due course.

The institute reserves the right to accept or reject any application without giving a reason, so make sure your application clearly highlights your relevant qualification, experience and preferred skills. Read the eligibility routes above carefully and apply under whichever route matches your qualification best.

How to Apply

  1. Download the application form from the NIT Meghalaya recruitment notice page.
  2. Fill in the form and gather your age proof, and 10th, 12th and highest qualification certificates and mark sheets.
  3. Merge everything into a single PDF file, arranged in the order requested in the advertisement.
  4. Email the PDF to bibhas.manna@nitm.ac.in with the subject line "Application for JRF Position (ANRF-ARG Project) in the Department of ECE".
  5. Keep checking your email for a shortlisting update and the online interview link.
  6. If shortlisted, join the online interview on 24 August 2026 at the scheduled time.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview or joining the position. For general institute-related queries, you can also reach NIT Meghalaya's administration at registrar@nitm.ac.in.
