National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has announced a walk-in interview for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The position is attached to a DST-SERB funded project titled "Empowering Communication: Video Captioning of Indian Sign Language", led by Principal Investigator Dr. Anurag Singh. The project runs for three years, and your position will be co-terminus with it. This is a strong opportunity for candidates interested in computer vision, deep learning, and accessibility research, with the added benefit of being encouraged to register for a Ph.D. at NIT Delhi. In simple terms, the project aims to build AI models that can automatically generate captions or descriptions from videos of Indian Sign Language, making communication easier for the hearing and speech impaired community. As a JRF, you will get to work at the intersection of computer vision, natural language processing, and social impact research, funded directly by the Department of Science and Technology.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification (Option 1): M.Tech./M.E./M.S. by Research or an equivalent postgraduate degree in Computer Science & Engineering, IT, ECE, or a relevant branch, with a minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks, and a valid GATE or NET qualification.
  • Qualification (Option 2): B.Tech./B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering, IT, ECE, or a relevant branch with a minimum of 7.5 CGPA (on a 10-point scale) and a valid GATE score.
  • Desirable: Work or project experience in Image Processing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or Deep Learning, along with strong Python programming skills.
  • Who should apply: This role suits candidates who want to build a research career in AI and accessibility technology before pursuing a Ph.D. Since the position is co-terminus with a three-year project, NIT Delhi is looking for someone who can commit for at least a year and contribute to model development from the early stages.

Age Limit

  • You should not be older than 32 years as on the closing date of the application.
  • Age Relaxation: As per Government of India norms for reserved categories.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA (as per DST norms).
  • The position is purely contractual, initially for one year, and co-terminus with the project.
  • Your appointment will be governed by the administrative rules and conditions of Research & Consultancy at NIT Delhi, as per institute norms.
  • As an added benefit, you will be encouraged to register for a Ph.D. at NIT Delhi in accordance with the institute's Ph.D. ordinance, which can be a valuable step if you want to pursue doctoral research after your JRF tenure.
