NHSRC Legal Consultant ED Secretariat Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), an autonomous society working under the National Health Mission, is hiring a Legal Consultant for the Executive Director Secretariat. NHSRC supports the Union health ministry and state health systems with technical advice, programme design, capacity building and evaluation, so this role places legal work inside a broad public-health setting. You will report to the Executive Director and help the Secretariat as well as other NHSRC divisions understand and act on legal questions connected with healthcare. The distinctive part of this assignment is its mix of law, policy and health-system work, with exposure to issues that can affect programmes at national, state and district levels.

Your work will go beyond checking documents. You may help shape policy proposals, study how health laws are being followed, interpret legal provisions for programme teams and bring a legal view into discussions with internal and external partners. The role also involves research, drafting, risk assessment and representation in legal consultations, making it a good fit if you can turn complex law into practical guidance. NHSRC works through multidisciplinary teams, so you should be comfortable discussing legal concerns with public-health specialists, programme managers and government stakeholders. The focus is on usable advice that strengthens decision-making and reduces legal risk in health programmes.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Contract: This is a fixed-term NHSRC consultancy reporting to the Executive Director. The notified term can be extended for a similar period when performance is satisfactory.
  • Work base and travel: Your main workplace will be New Delhi, while official visits to states and districts may form part of the assignment.
  • Public-health focus: Legal work may cover hospitals, healthcare delivery, mental health, gender and sexuality, disability, HIV, tuberculosis, tobacco control and related policy areas.
  • Team setting: You will work across NHSRC divisions and with outside stakeholders, so clear communication and the ability to manage concurrent assignments are important.
  • Performance expectations: The Secretariat works to short government timelines; your analysis, drafting and presentations must remain accurate even when several requests arrive together.
  • Similar roles: NHSRC may also consider a person selected through this process for another vacant position that needs comparable skills at an appropriate level.
  • Benefits policy: The engagement includes the consultant benefits listed by NHSRC, subject to the organisation's applicable rules and reimbursement policy.
