National Health Mission - Tamil Nadu Consultant HTA Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

National Health Mission - Tamil Nadu (NHM TN), through the State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC), has issued the terms of reference for one Consultant - Health Technology Assessment position. The work location is Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and the consultant will report to the Advisor - Knowledge Management and Development, SHSRC. This is a specialised health systems role for professionals who can review medical technologies, diagnostics, equipment, and public health interventions before they are adopted in the state health system.

The role supports the Government of Tamil Nadu in making evidence-based decisions on biomedical equipment, digital health technologies, diagnostics, and health interventions. It is best suited for candidates who understand both the technical side of medical technology and the public health side of government programmes. The appointment is initially for 11 months and may be extended based on performance and programme need.

SHSRC works as a technical resource institution for evidence-based policy support, programme strengthening, health systems research, and innovation. For this post, the consultant will help connect technology evidence with real public health decisions, especially when the state reviews medical equipment, diagnostics, digital health tools, and new interventions. Educational Qualification

  • Biomedical or medical technology route: You need a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Electronics, Biomedical Instrumentation, Medical Technology, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Medical and public health route: You can also apply if you are a medical graduate with a postgraduate qualification in Health Technology Assessment, Health Economics, Public Health, Health Systems, or a related discipline.

Role Focus and Expected Work

The selected consultant will help SHSRC review new health technologies, biomedical equipment, diagnostics, and digital health tools before they are used in the Tamil Nadu public health system. The work includes checking clinical effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness, feasibility, and likely health system impact.

  • Health Technology Assessment: Conduct assessments for new interventions, diagnostics, biomedical equipment, and digital health technologies.
  • Evidence review: Prepare literature reviews, economic evaluations, and evidence summaries for decision-making.
  • Equipment review: Assess equipment utilisation, maintenance, calibration, and lifecycle issues.
  • Policy support: Prepare HTA reports, policy briefs, technical notes, and recommendations for the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
  • Coordination: Work with HTA nodal institutions such as ICMR-NIRT and ICMR-NIE, and with DPH, DMS, and DME directorates.

The expected output is practical and policy-facing: HTA reports, evidence-based recommendations, stronger coordination with HTA institutions, and better decisions on technology procurement. You may also support workshops, technical consultations, policy briefs, and discussions with health directorates. Field visits may be required when SHSRC needs ground-level information on equipment use, maintenance, or programme implementation.
