NCESS Scientist B & D Recruitment 2026 - 4 Posts

National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) is an autonomous research centre situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, operating under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India. NCESS has invited online applications for 3 Scientist B and 1 Scientist D regular positions across specializations in Geology, Geophysics, Mineralogy, Marine Sediment Geochemistry, and Coastal Zone Management. These are Group A gazetted posts with attractive pay under the 7th Central Pay Commission. Candidates with post-graduate degrees in earth science disciplines should consider applying.

Who Can Apply?

For Scientist B (Post Codes 01 & 02):

• Essential: Master's Degree in Geology or equivalent with at least 60% marks from a recognised university.
• Desirable: Doctoral Degree with research experience in Planetary Geology/Palaeomagnetism (Post 01) or Mineralogy/Petrology/Critical Minerals (Post 02), as evidenced through publications in peer-reviewed journals.

For Scientist B (Post Code 03):

• Essential: Master's Degree in Geophysics or equivalent with at least 60% marks from a recognised university.
• Desirable: Doctoral Degree with research experience in Gravity/Magnetic/Resistivity/Seismological studies, evidenced through peer-reviewed publications.

For Scientist D (Post Code 04):

• Essential: Master's Degree in Geology / Marine Geology or equivalent from a recognised university AND seven years of experience in research and development in industrial or academic institutions, or science and technology organisations.
• Desirable: (1) Doctoral Degree with research experience in River/Marine Sediment Geochemistry or Coastal Zone Management. (2) Experience in policy making, planning, and management related to the specified field.

Indian citizenship is mandatory for all posts. Candidates claiming equivalent qualifications must produce the equivalence order from the competent authority.

Age Limit

• Scientist B (Post 01 & 02 - UR): Not exceeding 35 years
• Scientist B (Post 03 - OBC): Not exceeding 38 years (35 years + 3 years relaxation for OBC)
• Scientist D (Post 04 - UR): Not exceeding 50 years
• Age as on: Closing date of application, i.e., 27 March 2026

Age Relaxation:

• OBC: 3 years (against reserved posts only)
• PwBD / Government employees / Ex-Servicemen / Kashmiri Migrants: As per Government of India norms (O.M. No.F.15012/2/2010-ESTT.(D) dated 27.03.2012)
• The Secretary, MoES / Chairman, NCESS Governing Council may relax the upper age limit for highly experienced candidates in specialized scientific areas.

Salary

• Scientist B (Level 10): Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month (entry pay Rs. 56,100)
• Scientist D (Level 12): Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month (entry pay Rs. 78,800)
• You will also get DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as applicable for Central Government employees.

Selection Process

The selection will be through the following stages as decided by NCESS:

1. Screening of Applications: If the number of applications is large, NCESS may shortlist candidates based on academic performance, relevant experience, and qualifications.
2. Written Test / Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test, or direct interview, or test followed by interview, as decided by NCESS.
3. Document Verification: You must produce original certificates matching your online application at the time of interview.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified on the NCESS website and via email.
