About This Job
Jharkhand Academic Council, Ranchi has opened the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 online form. This is not a direct vacancy notice; it is the eligibility test used for teacher appointment eligibility in primary classes 1 to 5 and upper primary classes 6 to 8 in Jharkhand. The online application window runs from 21 April 2026 to 21 May 2026. You must apply through the official JHTET 2026 portal.
JAC JHTET Recruitment 2026
The official press advertisement is numbered 24/2026 and dated 28 March 2026. The detailed notification refers to Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test Niyamawali 2026 and applies across the full state of Jharkhand. You can apply for Level 1, Level 2, or both levels depending on your qualification and training route. JAC also says applicants who already filled the earlier free form under advertisement number 30/2024 must fill the form again but will not pay a separate fee for those earlier submissions.
JHTET is a qualifying examination, so passing it does not by itself give a direct appointment. The advertisement clearly says the certificate only checks eligibility for Assistant Teacher or Special Education Assistant Teacher appointments under the applicable rules. That means you should treat JHTET 2026 as a required qualification step for future teacher recruitment in Jharkhand, not as a vacancy with a fixed salary or a fixed number of posts.
Who Can Apply?
You should be an Indian citizen and should not have been convicted by a competent court in a criminal case. For educational and training qualification, JAC points applicants to notification number 487 dated 26 March 2026 under Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test Niyamawali 2026. Reserved categories including SC, ST, PVTG, BC-1, BC-2, and PwD get a relaxation of 5% in the minimum required qualifying marks in the specified training qualification. You must hold the required qualification on the date of advertisement publication, except where the rules allow candidates appearing in the prescribed training examination to submit final verified marks later.
Before submitting the form, check whether you are applying for Level 1, Level 2, or both. Level 1 is for primary school teachers for classes 1 to 5, while Level 2 is for upper primary school teachers for classes 6 to 8. The notice also says that you can appear more than once to improve your marks, so a previous JHTET attempt does not stop you from applying again in 2026.
Age Limit
- Minimum age: 21 years as on 1 August of the JHTET 2026 examination year.
- Maximum age: As per the age limit fixed for government service by the Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha Department, Jharkhand.
- Para teacher relaxation: Assistant teachers working under Jharkhand Education Project Council with at least 2 continuous years of service may get relaxation equal to their contract service period, subject to a maximum age of 58 years.
- One-time relaxation: The gap between the last eligibility test and upcoming eligibility test is considered after excluding 1 year, as explained in the notice.
The press advertisement gives an example for the long gap between the earlier 2016 eligibility test and the 2026 test, where one year is excluded before one-time relaxation is counted. If your age depends on this relaxation, read the detailed JHTET 2026 rules carefully before payment, because the fee becomes non-refundable after submission.
Application Fee
- General, BC-1, BC-2, and EWS: Rs. 1,300 for one level and Rs. 1,500 for both levels.
- SC, ST, and PwD: Rs. 700 for one level and Rs. 800 for both levels.
- PVTG: Rs. 500 for one level and Rs. 600 for both levels.
- Refund rule: The fee is not refundable after payment.
The fee table is level-based. If you apply only for Level 1 or only for Level 2, the one-level fee applies. If you apply for both primary and upper primary levels together, the both-level fee applies. JAC has separately stated that applicants covered by the earlier free advertisement number 30/2024 must fill the form again but do not need to pay an additional fee for those earlier free applications.
Selection Process
- Online form: Submit the JHTET 2026 form between 21 April 2026 and 21 May 2026.
- Admit card download: JAC will publish the admit card download date later on the website.
- OMR written test: The test will be objective and multiple-choice, and answers must be marked on the OMR sheet.
- Qualifying marks: You need 60% for General/EWS, 55% for BC-1/BC-2, and 52% for SC/ST/PVTG/PwD categories.
- Certificate validity: Passing JHTET gives eligibility only; it does not create a direct right to appointment as Assistant Teacher or Special Education Assistant Teacher.
The test papers will be in Hindi and English, and language subject papers will be in the concerned language. For Level 1, questions are based on the approved syllabus for classes 1 to 5, with difficulty around secondary or matric level. For Level 2, questions are based on the approved syllabus for classes 6 to 8, with difficulty around higher secondary or plus-two level.
