The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It conducts postgraduate medical examinations at the national level. NBEMS has extended the last date to receive applications (originally issued via Vacancy Circular No. A.11011/3/2024-Estt. dated 10.02.2026) for 18 regular vacant posts to be filled on deputation basis. The new deadline is 28 April 2026. These are Group A and Group B posts and are open only to currently serving government officers from Central/State Government departments, PSUs, autonomous bodies, statutory bodies, universities, and recognized medical institutions.

Who Can Apply?

This recruitment is open only to currently serving officers/officials of Central or State Government, PSUs, Autonomous Bodies, Statutory Bodies, Universities, and recognized Medical Colleges/Institutes.

Joint Director (Non-Medical) — Level 12

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 5 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 11 or equivalent
  • Desirable: At least 5 years experience in administration/finance in any institute of repute and knowledge of computers

Deputy Director (Non-Medical) — Level 11

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 5 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 10 or equivalent
  • Desirable: At least 5 years experience in administration/finance and knowledge of computers

Assistant Director (Non-Medical) — Level 10

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 7 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 7 or equivalent
  • Desirable: At least 3 years experience in administration/finance/vigilance/IT and knowledge of computers

Section Officer — Level 8

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 5 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 7 or equivalent
  • Desirable: At least 5 years experience in administration/Establishment/Housekeeping/Accounts/Vigilance/Research/IT/finance and knowledge of computers

Section Officer (Official Language) — Level 8

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 5 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 6 or equivalent; OR
  • Combined service of 10 years in Pay Level 5 and Level 4
  • Graduation with Diploma in Hindi Translation and 3 years experience in implementing official language policy

Senior Assistant — Level 7

  • Holding analogous post on a regular basis; OR
  • 5 years regular service in posts at Pay Level 4 or equivalent
  • Graduate degree from a recognized university
  • Experience: 5 years in Administration/Establishment/Housekeeping/Accounts/Vigilance/Research/IT/Conduct of Examinations

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications (28 April 2026)
  • No minimum age prescribed (must be a serving officer)

Salary

  • Joint Director (Non-Medical) — Level 12: Rs. 78,800 per month (entry pay)
  • Deputy Director (Non-Medical) — Level 11: Rs. 67,700 per month (entry pay)
  • Assistant Director (Non-Medical) — Level 10: Rs. 56,100 per month (entry pay)
  • Section Officer / Section Officer (OL) — Level 8: Rs. 47,600 per month (entry pay)
  • Senior Assistant — Level 7: Rs. 44,900 per month (entry pay)
  • Pay and allowances on deputation are governed by DoPT OM No. 6/8/2009-Estt. (Pay II) dated 17 June 2010
  • Plus DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Central Government rules

Selection Process

There is no written exam for these deputation posts. Selection is done in 2 stages:

  1. Screening of Applications: Applications are shortlisted based on eligibility criteria. Only short-listed candidates are called for the next stage.
  2. Interview: Short-listed candidates will be called for a personal interview before the selection committee.

Note: Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Officers who are in the direct line of promotion will NOT be eligible for deputation to the same post.

  • Coordinate with departments, institutions, and external stakeholders
  • Follow Central Government service rules, vigilance norms, and departmental guidelines

Exam Pattern

There is no written examination for these deputation posts. The selection process has two stages:
