Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) Research Officer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra, has released a TOR for a Research Officer level economics and financial appraisal role under the World Bank-assisted Maharashtra Urban Water Supply, Sanitation and Reuse Program (MUWREP). The role is part of the Knowledge Management PMU (KM-PMU) and is based at MITRA, Mumbai, with travel and coordination as required for the programme. This is a contractual engagement through open advertisement, and selection will be handled by a committee headed by the Joint CEO, MITRA, with approval of the CEO, MITRA.

The selected person will support economic analysis, financial appraisal, procurement tracking, and policy research for KM-PMU. This is a good fit if you have worked on finance data, infrastructure funding, procurement tracking, public policy research, or externally aided development projects. The TOR also gives preference to candidates who can prepare short analytical notes, financial summaries, charts, tables, and briefing material for review meetings.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification and Experience

• Qualification: You need a graduate degree in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Management, Public Policy, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Preferred Qualification: A post-graduate qualification is desirable. CA, CFA, MBA, MA Economics, or an equivalent qualification will be useful for this role.
• Experience: You need at least 3 years of relevant experience in economic or financial analysis, infrastructure finance, procurement tracking, data analysis, or policy research.
• Experience Relaxation: MITRA may waive the minimum experience condition for candidates with experience in a Multilateral Development Bank (MDB), MDB-funded programme, development-finance institution, Institution of Eminence, Institute of National Importance, or another reputed organisation.

Skills and Desirable Background

• Domain exposure: Municipal finance, PPP, public finance, procurement, externally aided projects, or urban infrastructure exposure is desirable.
• Communication: You should have strong written and oral communication skills in English. Working knowledge of Marathi or Hindi will be an advantage.
• Work style: You should be able to work in a government environment and deliver high-quality outputs under timelines.

Salary

• The approved consolidated salary is Rs. 1,00,000 per month.
• The salary is inclusive of routine allowances unless MITRA or Government of Maharashtra specifically approves anything else.
• This is a contractual engagement, so it does not give any right to regular appointment in MITRA or the Government of Maharashtra.

Selection Process

The selection will be handled by a committee headed by the Joint CEO, MITRA and approved by the CEO, MITRA. The TOR does not give a fixed written exam pattern.
