MECON CMD Recruitment 2026: Overview

MECON Limited is seeking a Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). The company works under the Ministry of Steel and has its registered and corporate offices in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This is a board-level chief executive appointment with accountability to the company's Board of Directors and the Government.

MECON's work began with design and consultancy for India's iron and steel industry. Its current business also covers project and construction management, including turnkey projects, alongside work in oil and gas, power generation and distribution, and infrastructure development. You would lead an organisation whose work combines technical consultancy with project delivery. MECON is a wholly Government-owned Schedule A Miniratna central public sector enterprise in the industrial development and technical consultancy services sector.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Appointment term: The appointment runs for five years from joining, until superannuation, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
• Immediate absorption: Central Government officers, including Armed Forces and All India Services officers, and officers from public sector banks, financial institutions and autonomous bodies can be considered only on immediate absorption terms.
• Joining commitment: You must give the undertaking that you will join if selected. PESB rejects an application that does not include this commitment.
• Withdrawal consequences: Unwillingness to join after the interview can lead to a two-year bar from consideration for CPSE board-level posts. If you withdraw after an appointment offer, the bar runs from the offer date. For a CPSE applicant, the restriction excludes the applicant's own CPSE; the notice says requests to relax these conditions will not be considered.
• Employer forwarding: Your forwarding authority depends on your present employer. Government officers use their cadre authority, bank and financial institution officers use the administrative ministry or department, and CPSE applicants use the company or ministry channel appropriate to their level.

Application Submission Notes

Online employer forwarding is part of the PESB process for applicants other than those from private companies. Your nodal officer or competent authority uses the online forwarding facility; a registration link for these authorities is available on the PESB website. Private-company applicants apply directly to PESB.

Paper and email applications are rejected. The separate deadline for the forwarding authority does not extend your own application deadline.
