KU Cook Recruitment 2026 — 13 Posts

The University of Kashmir (NAAC Accredited Grade A++), located at Hazratbal, Srinagar, has released Advertisement Notice No. 10 of 2026 dated 02-04-2026. Online applications are invited from eligible domiciles of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir for the post of Cook (SL-01). Three of these posts are anticipated vacancies that are likely to become available by the end of April 2026.

• Open Merit (OM): 06 posts
• Scheduled Caste (SC): 01 post
• Scheduled Tribe - 1 (ST-1): 01 post

• Backward Area (BA): 01 post
• Other Backward Class (OBC): 01 post
• Economically Weaker Section (EWS): 01 post
• LAC/IB: 01 post

Note: 4% horizontal reservation is provided for Physically Handicapped (PwBD) candidates where applicable.

Who Can Apply?

• Educational Qualification: Matriculation (Class 10 pass) with culinary skills in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food preparations
• Domicile: You must be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir
• If you are currently employed in a Government, Semi-Government, Public Sector, or Autonomous Body of J&K or the Government of India, you must apply through the proper channel

Age Limit

Your age is calculated as on 01 January 2026. You must be:

• Minimum age: 18 years
• Maximum age (Open Merit): 40 years
• Maximum age (PwBD): 42 years
• Maximum age (SC/ST-1/ST-2/BA/OBC/EWS/LAC/IB): 43 years
• Maximum age (Substantiated in-service J&K State University employees): 50 years

Salary

• Pay Level: SL-01 (J&K 7th Pay Commission)
• Pay Scale: Rs. 14,800 — Rs. 47,100 per month
• Grade Pay: Rs. 1,300
• You will also get Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and other allowances as per J&K government rules

• PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): No fee (fully exempted)
• Payment Mode: Online only

The application fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted under any circumstances.

Selection Process

The selection will be done through the following stages:

1. Screening Test / OMR-Based Written Test: If the number of applicants is large, a screening test will be conducted. The syllabus will be notified separately on the university website.
2. Skill Test: Eligible candidates may be called for a practical skill test to assess cooking abilities.
3. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must submit the printout of the online application form along with all original certificates and one set of self-attested copies.

Important: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the written test. The university will not scrutinize applications in detail at the OMR test stage — detailed verification happens only during document verification.

4. Log in and fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, and experience. Preview the form, make corrections if needed, and then submit
5. Pay the application fee of Rs. 750 through the online payment mode
6. Take a printout of the application form and note your Form Number for future reference

Note: No editing or updating is allowed after the form is submitted. In-service candidates must send a hard copy through the proper channel before 01 May 2026.

• Prepare vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals for university hostels, guest houses, and canteens as per the approved menu
• Handle daily food preparation for large groups while maintaining hygiene and quality standards
• Keep the kitchen area, cooking utensils, and equipment clean and properly maintained
• Follow food safety guidelines and university rules for storage and handling of food items
• Assist in planning menus and estimating quantities of ingredients needed for daily meals
• Manage kitchen inventory, report shortages of supplies, and coordinate with the mess committee
• Work in shifts as assigned, including during university events, examinations, and special functions
