JPSC State Tax Officer Recruitment 2026 - 7 Posts

Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has released Advertisement No. 06/2026 for the recruitment of 7 State Tax Officer (Rajya-Kar Padhadhikari) posts through the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services (Backlog) Examination-2023. These are backlog vacancies in the Commercial Taxes Department of Jharkhand State Government. This is a combined civil services exam with Preliminary (objective), Mains (written) and Interview stages. Graduates from any discipline can apply for this competitive examination.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must hold a degree from any recognised university in India. Any graduation degree is accepted.
  • Domicile: You must be a permanent resident of Jharkhand. A local domicile certificate is required.
  • Nationality: You must be an Indian citizen.

Age Limit

  • You should have completed at least 21 years of age.
  • Upper age limit: Age is calculated as on 01 August 2017 (minimum) and 01 August 2024 (maximum) as per the JPSC notification.
  • BC-II (Backward Classes): Upper age limit is 37 years.
  • Female BC-II: Upper age limit is 38 years.
  • SC/ST (Male and Female): Upper age limit is 40 years.
  • PwBD: Additional relaxation of 10 years in their respective category.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Additional relaxation of 5 years in their respective category.
  • Jharkhand Government servants with at least 3 years of regular service get 5 years extra relaxation in the upper age limit.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary in the pay scale of Rs. 9,300 to Rs. 34,800 with Grade Pay Rs. 5,400 (pre-revised).
  • Under the 7th CPC Revised Pay Matrix Level-9, the entry pay is approximately Rs. 53,100 per month.
  • You will also receive DA, HRA, TA and other allowances as per Jharkhand Government rules.

  • PwBD (40% or more disability): No fee

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 3 stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Screening): Two objective papers (General Studies I and II), each with 100 MCQs of 2 marks each. Total 400 marks. Duration: 2 hours per paper. No negative marking in Prelims. This is only a screening test and marks are not counted in the final merit.
  2. Main Examination (Written): Six descriptive papers totaling 950 marks. Paper-I is Language (qualifying, minimum 30 marks required). Papers II to VI cover Language & Literature, Social Sciences, Indian Constitution & Polity, Indian Economy, and General Sciences. Duration: 3 hours per paper.
  3. Interview Test: Total 100 marks. No minimum qualifying marks. Candidates are shortlisted for interview at approximately 2.5 times the total vacancies.

Grand Total: 1,050 marks (Written 950 + Interview 100). Final merit is based on Main Examination + Interview marks (excluding Paper-I).

Responsibilities

  • Assess and collect commercial taxes, goods and services tax (GST), and other state levies from businesses and traders
  • Conduct audits of business accounts and financial records to ensure proper tax compliance
  • Investigate cases of tax evasion, under-reporting of income, and fraudulent claims
  • Prepare detailed assessment orders, reports, and notices for taxpayers under relevant tax laws
  • Handle taxpayer grievances and resolve disputes related to tax assessments and refunds
  • Monitor and enforce regulations related to inter-state movement of goods and e-way bills
  • Assist senior officers in policy implementation and revenue collection targets set by the state government

Exam Pattern

The Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination has two stages of written exam plus an interview.

Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)

You will face 2 papers, each worth 200 marks (total 400 marks). Each paper has 100 objective questions of 2 marks each. You will get 2 hours per paper.

  • General Studies Paper-I (200 marks): History of India (15 questions), Geography of India (10), Indian Polity & Governance (10), Economic & Sustainable Development (10), Science & Technology (15), Jharkhand Specific (10), Current Events (15), Miscellaneous (15).
  • General Studies Paper-II (200 marks): Jharkhand History (16 marks), Jharkhand Movement (14), Jharkhand Specific Issues (10), Jharkhand Culture (10), Jharkhand Literature (10), Education (6), Sports (10), Land Laws (24), Economic Development since 1947 (20), Industrial Policy (12), Major Industries (10), Major Projects (10), Wildlife & Environment (10), Climate Change (14), Disaster Management (10), Legal Facts (14).

No negative marking in the Preliminary Examination. Question papers are in Hindi and English. Prelims marks are not counted in the final merit.

Main Examination (Written)

The Mains has 6 compulsory papers totaling 950 marks:

  • Paper-I: General Hindi & General English — 3 hours, 100 marks (qualifying only, minimum 30 marks required)
  • Paper-II: Language & Literature (choose 1 of 15 languages) — 3 hours, 150 marks (descriptive)
  • Paper-III: Social Sciences (History & Geography) — 3 hours, 200 marks (descriptive)
  • Paper-IV: Indian Constitution & Polity, Public Administration — 3 hours, 200 marks (descriptive)
  • Paper-V: Indian Economy, Globalization & Sustainable Development — 3 hours, 200 marks (descriptive)
  • Paper-VI: General Sciences, Environment & Technology — 3 hours, 200 marks (descriptive)

Interview Test

The interview carries 100 marks with no minimum qualifying marks. The final merit is prepared from Main Examination marks (Papers II to VI) plus Interview marks.
