JNCASR ARF Instrument Scientist Recruitment 2026: Overview
Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is engaging an ARF Instrument Scientist for the Photoluminescence facility at its International Centre for Materials Science in Bengaluru. This is a specialist contract role for someone comfortable with advanced optical characterisation and shared research infrastructure. The position centres on the Edinburgh FLS 1000 system, so your work will directly support researchers who depend on reliable steady-state, time-resolved and low-temperature measurements.
The facility serves users whose samples and experiments may need different measurement settings, careful calibration and clear technical guidance. You will be the link between the instrument and its research users, helping experiments run correctly while protecting a high-value shared system. The notice places particular value on prior central-facility or national or international laboratory experience, especially hands-on work with high-end photoluminescence equipment. This makes the role a better fit for an experienced instrument professional than for someone whose background is only classroom-based.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Contract term: The initial engagement is for six months and may be extended if the centre still needs the role and your performance is satisfactory.
- Contract status: The assignment is purely contractual and does not create a claim to a regular JNCASR appointment.
- Final package: The institute will consider your qualifications and practical instrument-operating experience while deciding the final contract amount; no separate allowances are available.
- Shortlisting: JNCASR may use an online interview, technical discussion or personal interaction to assess shortlisted applicants.
- Travel: If you are asked to attend in person, JNCASR will not pay TA or DA.
- Current employment: Applicants who already have a job need a No Objection Certificate from their employer.
Application Submission Notes
Use the prescribed application template and email the completed packet to iems@jncasr.ac.in. The template is available separately on the JNCASR website, and the supporting records must be sent as readable scans. Check the form carefully before sending so every requested attachment is included.
Include your Skype ID, email address and mobile number so the centre can arrange a remote discussion if needed. Make sure your resume clearly explains your work with photoluminescence or other central-facility instruments. A focused application will help the screening team connect your laboratory background with the exact system named in the notice.

- Measure emission, excitation, lifetime, quantum yield and temperature-dependent responses
- Maintain the instrument and keep it ready for shared-facility users
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate specialist maintenance
- Provide technical support and measurement guidance to research users
- Keep accurate operating records for instrument use and service work
