Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), a NAAC Grade 'A' Central University located in Jamia Nagar, New Delhi, has released Local Advertisement No. 01/2026-27 inviting applications for 20 contractual Assistant Professor posts in its Centre for Distance and Online Education for the Academic Session 2026-27. The positions span 13 different subject disciplines ranging from Management and Commerce to History, English, and Education. Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification (A or B):

Option A — Indian University Degree:

  • A Master's degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade in a point-scale grading system) in the relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university
  • You must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR, or an equivalent test like SLET/SET
  • NET/SLET/SET is not required if you hold a Ph.D. degree awarded in accordance with UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2009 or 2016 (and amendments). You must fulfil specific conditions: Ph.D. in regular mode, evaluated by at least 2 external examiners, open viva voce conducted, 2 research papers published (at least 1 in a refereed journal), and at least 2 conference presentations at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-funded events.
  • Special note for Education discipline (S. No. 13): M.Ed. or Master's degree in Education plus a Master's degree in any other subject with 55% marks is required.

Option B — Foreign University Degree:

  • Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in QS, THE, or ARWU (Shanghai) World University Rankings

Desirable Qualification (for all posts):

  • At least 2 years of experience in Distance Mode Education and Computer Literacy
  • For Hindi: 2 years experience in Distance Mode, Hindi Mass Media and Computer Literacy
  • For Urdu: 2 years experience in Distance Mode, Urdu Mass Media and Computer Literacy
  • Knowledge of Urdu and Hindi is a desirable qualification for all teaching posts

Age Limit

  • No age limit is specified in the notification

Salary

  • Monthly salary: Rs. 57,700 per month (Academic Pay Level 10 as per 7th Central Pay Commission)
  • Plus Dearness Allowance (DA) applicable for the Academic Session 2026-27
  • This is a Basic Pay in Academic Pay Level 10 — additional allowances (HRA, TA) as applicable
  • Note: This is a contractual position. The engagement will be from the date of joining (not before the Local Selection Committee date) for Academic Session 2026-27.

Selection Process

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned subjects as per the curriculum of the Centre for Distance and Online Education
  • Prepare study materials, lesson plans, and question papers for distance learning programmes
  • Evaluate student assignments, projects, and examinations in online/distance mode
  • Guide students enrolled in distance education programmes on academic and course-related matters
  • Participate in curriculum development and revision of study materials for CDOE programmes
  • Assist in the development and delivery of online learning content and e-learning modules
  • Conduct research and contribute to academic publishing in your subject discipline
  • Attend departmental meetings and fulfil administrative duties as assigned by the Dean, CDOE
