IUAC JRF and Project Manager Recruitment 2026: Overview
Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), an autonomous centre of the University Grants Commission under the Ministry of Education, is building research teams for two Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology projects on indigenous MRI technology. The roles sit in the Cryogenics and Applied Superconductivity Division at IUAC in New Delhi and combine advanced magnet research with the practical work needed to turn prototypes into dependable systems. This is project employment, not a route to a regular IUAC post.
The IMRI-2 project focuses on moving an indigenous MRI scanner from prototype towards products, while IMRI-3 develops an advanced research system. This makes the drive suitable for researchers who want hands-on work with superconducting magnets and for a project professional who can keep a complex, multi-partner technical programme organised.
Posts and Disciplines
- JRF, IMRI-2: research work on commercial-grade superconducting MRI magnets, associated cryogenic and electrical systems, simulation, technical records and industry-facing development.
- JRF, IMRI-3: research and testing work for advanced superconducting MRI magnet and scanner systems, with an emphasis on robust technology development.
- Project Manager, IMRI-2: coordination of schedules, procurement, reporting, partner communication, meetings and project finances for the prototype-to-product programme.
Post-wise Duties
Junior Research Fellows
You will help optimise and test superconducting MRI magnet systems, work with simulation and design tools, analyse technical results and prepare reports, manuscripts and presentations. The work calls for close collaboration with the principal investigator, IUAC researchers and industry partners, while still giving you room to handle defined research tasks independently.
Project Manager
You will keep the technical and administrative sides of IMRI-2 moving together. Your work covers project plans, schedules, progress and fund-use tracking, procurement support, financial records, partner coordination, review meetings, workshops, proposals, presentations and official project documents.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Project tenure: IMRI-2 appointments can continue for up to four years and IMRI-3 appointments for up to three years, or until the relevant project closes, whichever comes first.
- Annual review: continuation depends on satisfactory progress and performance each year; the appointment does not create any claim to regular IUAC employment.
- Research progression: a JRF may be considered for SRF status after two years when research progress and the performance review support it.
- Confidentiality: selected team members must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement after joining.
- Shortlisting: IUAC may set additional merit-based shortlisting criteria, and shortlisted applicants will receive communication by email.
- Travel: IUAC will not pay TA or DA for attending the test or interview, and original testimonials will be checked at the interview.
- Project allocation: if you apply for both MRI projects, the selection committee's allocation decision will be final.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise superconducting MRI magnet and associated systems
- Test research hardware and record technical results accurately
- Prepare technical reports, project records, manuscripts and presentations
- Coordinate research work with IUAC teams, partner institutes and industry
- Plan project schedules, procurement and review activities
- Monitor technical progress, fund use and financial documentation
- Maintain confidential project information under the required agreement
