IIT Jammu Research Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) has announced a vacancy for the post of Research Assistant under the research project titled "Sustainable electrochemical pathways for Yttrium (Y) powder production from e-waste recycling" (Project No. RP-100348). This is a Ministry of Mines funded project based at IIT Jammu. The position is initially for 6 months, extendable based on performance or end of the project, whichever is earlier. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: B.Tech. or M.Tech. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any other relevant discipline from a recognised university or institute.
• Preferred skills: Experience or coursework in e-waste recycling and electrochemical processing is preferred for this role.

Age Limit

• Maximum age: 35 years as on the date of application.
• Age relaxation is available as per government guidelines for reserved category candidates.

Salary

• Salary: Rs. 28,000 per month (consolidated pay — no HRA is paid separately).
• This is a project-based contract position — no other government allowances apply.

Selection Process

The selection will happen in 2 stages:

1. Merit-based shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on academic merit and the relevance of their profile to the project. Simply meeting the qualification does not guarantee a call for interview.
2. Online Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an online interview. The date and time will be communicated via e-mail. You must provide a valid e-mail ID and phone number in your application and check your inbox regularly.

• Conduct experimental research in metallurgy and materials engineering with a focus on recovering critical metals from e-waste
• Operate electrochemical workstations and carry out experiments related to electrochemical processing of e-waste
• Assist in e-waste recycling operations including sample preparation, electrochemical testing, and data collection
• Prepare technical documents such as project reports, presentations, and research manuscripts for publication
• Maintain lab records and ensure proper documentation of experimental procedures and results
• Work closely with the principal investigator and co-PI on project deliverables and research outcomes
