The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (IIT Jammu) has released Advertisement No. IITJMU/Faculty/02/2026 inviting online applications for regular faculty positions across many engineering, science and humanities disciplines. This is a Special Recruitment Drive aimed at filling reserved-category vacancies for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD candidates, and eligible women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Positions and Pay Levels

• Professor: Academic Pay Level 14A (Rs. 1,59,100 – Rs. 2,20,200)
• Associate Professor: Academic Pay Level 13A2 (Rs. 1,39,600 – Rs. 2,11,300)
• Assistant Professor (Grade-I): Academic Pay Level 12 (Rs. 1,01,500 – Rs. 1,67,400)
• Assistant Professor (Grade-II): Academic Pay Level 10 (Rs. 57,700 – Rs. 98,200), moved to Level 11 after one year of post-Ph.D. experience

Applications are invited in disciplines such as Biosciences & Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials & Metallurgical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Humanities & Social Sciences and interdisciplinary programmes. The number of vacancies is not fixed — the Institute may fill posts based on merit and requirement.

Who Can Apply?

You must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area with a first-class or equivalent record in the preceding degrees, plus experience as below:

Professor (Level 14A)

• Minimum 10 years of teaching, research or industrial experience, of which at least 4 years at the Associate Professor level in an IIT or similar institute.

Associate Professor (Level 13A2)

• Minimum 6 years of teaching, industry or research experience, of which at least 3 years at the Assistant Professor level.

Assistant Professor Grade-I (Level 12)

• Minimum 3 years of relevant industrial, research or teaching experience (excluding the Ph.D. period), with a strong publication record.

Assistant Professor Grade-II (Level 10)

• If you meet every requirement of Grade-I except the post-Ph.D. experience, you may be appointed at Grade-II with pay based on your post-doctoral experience.

Only Indian nationals belonging to SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD categories are eligible under this drive.

Age Limit

• There is no fixed upper age limit. Age relaxation applies as per the statutory rules for various categories under Government of India norms.

Salary

• Professor: Rs. 1,59,100 – Rs. 2,20,200 per month (Level 14A).
• Associate Professor: Rs. 1,39,600 – Rs. 2,11,300 per month (Level 13A2).
• Assistant Professor Grade-I: Rs. 1,01,500 – Rs. 1,67,400 per month (Level 12).
• Assistant Professor Grade-II: Rs. 57,700 – Rs. 98,200 per month (Level 10).
• You also get HRA and other allowances as per Central Government rules, plus a start-up research grant of up to Rs. 30 lakh and a professional development allowance of Rs. 3 lakh per block period.

Selection Process

The selection happens in three stages:

1. Shortlisting: The Institute screens applications based on qualifications and experience, and may set higher criteria for each discipline.
2. Research & Teaching Presentation: Shortlisted candidates give a seminar covering their research and core teaching subjects. Candidates abroad may present via video conference.
3. Interview: Those who clear the presentation are called for a personal interview, usually on the same or next day.

Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call for presentation or interview.
