The Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Hyderabad, a premier technical institute in Telangana, has released an advertisement for a Junior Research Fellow to work on the project 'Fate and transport of nanoatrazine in soil and its implication on soil-plant interaction: Laboratory and field investigations', sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF). The project studies how nanoatrazine, a commonly used agricultural herbicide, moves through soil and affects plant health, combining laboratory column experiments, lysimeter experiments, and mathematical modeling of transport behaviour. There is an option to enroll for a PhD in the same project, depending on your performance and the institute's norms - making this a strong entry point into a doctoral career at one of India's premier technical institutes. Who Can Apply?
- Essential Qualification: First Class Bachelor's degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Civil, Water Resources, Chemical or an allied area AND First Class Master's degree (M.Tech/M.E) in Hydraulics, Water Resources, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Chemical, Environmental, Earth Sciences, Agriculture or an allied area, from a recognized university.
- Desirable Skills: Strong mathematical, analytical and programming skills are a big plus for this role.
- Desirable Experience: Prior experience studying flow and transport through porous media, along with experience in modeling and simulation work, will strengthen your application.
Age Limit
- You should be up to 30 years of age to apply for this post.
Salary
- You will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA in Years 1 and 2 of the fellowship.
- From Year 3 onwards, your pay rises to Rs. 42,000 per month plus HRA.
- The fellowship is initially for 3 months, extendable up to 3 years, and is renewed every three months based on your performance and continued availability of project funding.
Selection Process
The selection will be done in 2 stages:

- Online Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an online interview with the project team to assess your technical fit for the role. The selected candidate is expected to join immediately once selected.

Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory column and lysimeter experiments to study nanoatrazine transport in soil
- Analyze and interpret experimental data using statistical and mathematical tools
- Develop mathematical models to simulate the transport behaviour of nanoatrazine in soil
- Prepare technical reports, journal manuscripts and conference presentations
- Maintain accurate project documentation and laboratory records
- Assist in day-to-day project management and laboratory activities
- Coordinate with the project supervisor on research timelines and deliverables

First Class Bachelor's degree (B.Tech/B.E) in Civil/Water Resources/Chemical/allied field AND First Class Master's degree (M.Tech/M.E) in Hydraulics/Water Resources/Hydrology/Hydrogeology/Chemical/Environmental/Earth Sciences/Agriculture/allied field
Preferred Qualification
Strong mathematical, analytical and programming skills; experience in flow and transport through porous media; experience in modeling and simulation
