IIT Bhubaneswar IPR Professor-Chair Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (IIT Bhubaneswar) is looking for an IPR Professor-Chair under SPRIHA — the Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia. The scheme was set up by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) to push the study, teaching and research of intellectual property in Indian institutions. This is a senior, fixed-tenure chair, not a regular faculty post, and it suits established IP academics, senior professionals and retired officers of the Indian IP offices. The institute is at Jatni, Khordha, Odisha.

The chair is judged on outcomes that DIPP sets for every SPRIHA chair. The most important one: getting IPR taught as a credit course at the undergraduate level. This is mandatory, and the institute cannot claim DIPP grants without it. Beyond that, you will be expected to grow IP teaching and research across levels:

• Courses: post-graduate degree or diploma courses, doctoral and post-doctoral curricula, and certificate, distance and online IPR courses.
• Research support: scholarships and fellowships for research on legal, economic, social, technological and entrepreneurial sides of new IPR areas.
• Resources: a physical and digital repository of IPR information and case studies, plus teaching toolkits and guidance material.
• DIPP studies: any study DIPP commissions must be done by the chair, starting with a concept note shared with DIPP.
• Filing and outreach: helping file patents, copyrights and other IP, and linking academia and industry on technology sharing.
• PhD guidance: you can enrol Ph.D. scholars in IP as per UGC, AICTE or institute norms.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The chair is for five years, extendable by two more years, with a hard cap of seven years and an upper age of 70.
• Extra funds: Apart from your consolidated pay, the chair gets funds for books and journals, local and national travel, secretarial help, workshops and seminars, and contingency costs.
• Internal fallback: If no suitable chair is found, a serving IIT Bhubaneswar professor may be given additional charge with only a small honorarium. Faculty of the institute can also apply directly.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee an interview; the institute may call only those with stronger qualifications and experience.
• Relaxation: The institute may relax qualification or experience for exceptional candidates.
• Women applicants are specifically encouraged to apply.
• Canvassing in any form leads to disqualification.
