IIT BHU SLCR Multi Post Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, is building a project team for the Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) secretariat in its Department of Civil Engineering. The Ministry of Jal Shakti established this secretariat through the National Mission for Clean Ganga and IIT BHU under Namami Gange Mission-II. Its focus is on bringing Indian and international knowledge together to restore small rivers in ways that suit local environmental, economic and social needs.

Posts and Disciplines

• Project Attendant: separate streams cover water-quality sampling and testing, and fine arts, design or architecture with office and design software.
• Project Assistant: the notice connects this role with science or engineering work on water-quality sampling, testing and nature-based systems.
• Junior Research Fellow: the research focus spans hydraulics, river engineering, water resources and geoinformatics.
• Research Associate-I: specialist areas include nature-based wastewater treatment and hydrological or hydrogeological modelling.
• Senior Project Scientist, Professional Grade-I: the senior research role covers environmental science, water resources or a related discipline.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project appointment: The initial engagement runs until August 2027 and is tied to the project’s duration. Your appointment is contractual and does not create a right to a regular institute post.
• Review and extension: IIT BHU decides each appointment’s duration and reviews staff performance. Extensions may cover the remaining project period, so you should treat continuation as subject to a further decision.
• Joining expectation: If selected, you are expected to join within a month. Keep this requirement in mind when planning your current employment commitments.
• Travel: You will need to meet your own travel and daily expenses for attending the interview; the institute does not pay TA/DA.
• Recruitment discretion: The committee can set a higher shortlisting benchmark than the published minimum and limit the number of applicants it calls. It can also leave a position unfilled if it does not find a suitable applicant.
• Communication: Shortlisted applicants receive interview communication only by email. Keep your email account active and check it regularly; the institute does not take responsibility for missed messages caused by an incorrect or inactive address.

• Coordinate calls for project proposals and the proposal submission platform.
• Support the Apex Committee in screening projects and following their progress.
• Track project milestones, outcomes and implementation schedules.
• Document project activities, contracts and compliance requirements.
• Build links with industry partners, investors, mentors and subject experts.
• Compile progress reports, utilization certificates and quarterly project reports.
• Manage project funds at the SLCR secretariat.
• Prepare rollout plans for the end of the project period.
