IISER Pune Research Associate-II/III Recruitment 2026 - 3 Posts
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune (IISER Pune), an autonomous institution declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament in 2012, is hiring Research Associates for a cutting-edge Quantum Computing project. The project falls under the National Quantum Mission (NQM) and is housed within the Foundation for QC Innovation (Thematic Hub), Project Code 30124736. This is a purely contractual role, initially for 1 year with the possibility of extension based on performance and project continuation. Ph.D. holders in physics and quantum sciences with post-doctoral experience should apply.
Vacancy Details
- Research Associate-II: Ph.D. + 1 year post-doctoral experience
- Research Associate-III: Ph.D. + 2 years post-doctoral experience
Total Posts: 3 (the number may change during the selection process based on requirements)
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must have a Ph.D. in Experimental or Theoretical Atomic Physics, Laser Physics, Quantum Optics, or Quantum Computing from a recognised university or institution.
- Experience for RA-II: At least 1 year of relevant post-doctoral research experience.
- Experience for RA-III: At least 2 years of relevant post-doctoral research experience.
- Nationality: Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
Note: The experience requirement may be relaxed based on the quality of applications received, with prior approval of the competent authority.
Age Limit
- RA-II: Not more than 36 years as on 02 April 2026
- RA-III: Not more than 37 years as on 02 April 2026
- Age Relaxation: May be considered for candidates with qualifications and experience higher than advertised, with prior approval of the competent authority.
Salary
- RA-II: Rs. 61,000 per month (consolidated) + 30% House Rent Allowance
- RA-III: Rs. 67,000 per month (consolidated) + 30% House Rent Allowance
- Total monthly take-home for RA-II comes to approximately Rs. 79,300 and for RA-III approximately Rs. 87,100 including HRA.
Selection Process
Selection will happen in 2 stages:
- Shortlisting: Based on recommendations of the Screening Committee, the Project Investigator may restrict the number of candidates called for interview. Candidates with qualifications and experience above the minimum will be given preference.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email. Date, time, and other details will be posted on the institute website below the advertisement.
No TA/DA will be provided for appearing at the interview.

Responsibilities
- Conduct experimental and theoretical research in quantum computing, atomic physics, laser physics, or quantum optics
- Design and execute laboratory experiments related to the Quantum Computing project under NQM
- Analyse research data and prepare findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals
- Assist the Project Investigator in day-to-day project activities and reporting
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper documentation of experiments
- Present research outcomes at internal meetings, conferences, and workshops
- Mentor junior research scholars and project assistants working on related tasks
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum Qualification
Ph.D. in Experimental/Theoretical Atomic Physics, Laser Physics, Quantum Optics, or Quantum Computing
Preferred Qualification
Post-doctoral experience in quantum computing or related fields beyond the minimum requirement

Salary & Compensation
Pay Scale
Consolidated: RA-II Rs. 61,000/month, RA-III Rs. 67,000/month
Allowances
30% House Rent Allowance (HRA) in addition to consolidated pay
