IIITDM Kancheepuram Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Kancheepuram (IIITDM Kancheepuram) is inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has sanctioned one fellowship seat to the institute for the academic year 2025-26, and the scheme itself is run by the PhD Cell of the Digital India Corporation. The institute was set up in 2007 by the Ministry of Education on a 51-acre campus off the Vandalur-Kelambakkam road near Chennai, and it teaches and researches design and manufacturing-oriented engineering. Your research proposal decides your case here — it has to sit in Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), Information Technology or IT Enabled Services, with clear objectives, outcomes, timeline and deliverables for one year.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: the fellowship runs for one year and no extension beyond one year is allowed under the scheme.
• Full-time and India-only: it is a full-time, non-transferable, temporary position tenable in India, and the fellow must be an Indian citizen.
• Not for people in regular jobs: candidates in regular employment are not considered. Researchers holding temporary academic or research positions can apply, but have to give up those roles if selected.
• Not your own institute: you cannot take this fellowship at the institute where you did your PhD — the host institution has to be a different one.
• One fellowship at a time: you may not draw any other fellowship during the award period, and anyone who has already held a fellowship under this scheme is out.
• Mentor and registration: the institute identifies a mentor or guide holding a regular academic or research position, and the awardee must be registered with the PhD Cell, Digital India Corporation, MeitY. An awardee who is not registered under the scheme gets no support.
• Industry link helps: preference goes to applicants with active industry linkages whose proposal addresses industry-specific problems.
• Maternity leave: women fellows can take up to six months of maternity leave with fellowship support, within the total 12 months of the award.
• The PhD Cell can stop it: the fellowship can be held, stopped or terminated at any stage for inadequate progress, misuse of the grant, late or missing reports, or non-compliance with the scheme guidelines. There is no provision to replace or transfer an awardee.

Application Submission Notes

The institute takes applications only through the Google form linked in the official notice — there is no separate portal and nothing is sent by post. Keep your research proposal ready before you open the form, since the proposal is the core of the application and must spell out what you will deliver in the twelve months.

Shortlisted applicants are told by the institute when to appear for the interview, so give a phone number and email you actually check. Selected fellows are expected to join soon after the interview, which matters if you are currently holding a temporary research position you will need to leave.

• Take part in collaborative research, workshops and events organised by the PhD Cell
• Submit monthly progress reports in the format set by the PhD Cell
• Report publications, patents, start-ups and other achievements during the tenure
• Acknowledge the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme in every publication and recognition that comes out of the work
• Inform the PhD Cell at least one month in advance before taking any long-term leave
