Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Division of Biochemistry at ICAR-IARI, Pusa Campus, New Delhi, is conducting a walk-in interview to fill 1 Junior Research Fellow post under a DBT-NE (Department of Biotechnology, Government of India) funded project titled "Deciphering the nutritional and nutraceutical potential of Naga fermented soybean Axone/Akhuni for development of value-added products." The project focuses on studying a traditional fermented food from Northeast India and runs for 3 years. The fellowship is renewed on a yearly basis depending on your performance, up to the project duration, and there is no provision for re-engagement once the scheme ends. Since no written exam or online application is needed, this is a great option if you want quick entry into a government research career — you simply need to show up for the interview with your documents.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You need an M.Sc. or M.Tech (including Integrated M.Tech 4+2) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Plant Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Food Science or a relevant discipline from a recognized university.
• NET/GATE: You should ideally be qualified through NET, GATE or any National Eligibility Test, though this is not mandatory to attend the interview.
• Preferred Experience: Experience in food biochemistry, extrusion or functional analysis, and general biochemical techniques will be an advantage during shortlisting.
• NOC: If you are currently employed, you need a No Objection Certificate from your employer to be considered.
• Academic Record: Your bio-data must clearly show your academic percentage or OGPA from 10th standard onward, along with any distinctions, medals or relevant research experience, since this decides your academic score for shortlisting.
• Declaration: You will also need to sign a declaration confirming that none of your near or distant relatives are employed in a role that could create a conflict of interest, as per standard government norms for such appointments.

Age Limit

• Maximum age is 35 years as on 3 August 2026 (for Project Associate-I level candidates).
• Age Relaxation: 3 years for OBC candidates, and 5 years for SC/ST/Women candidates, as per Government of India rules.

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA if you are qualified through NET/GATE or any National Eligibility Test.
• This is as per DST/DBT guidelines (OM No. DST/PCPM/Z-06/2022 dated 26.06.2022).
• The position is purely temporary and contractual, co-terminus with the project, so there is no claim to a regular appointment at the institute.

Selection Process

Selection is done through:

1. Document Verification: Your certificates, mark sheets and bio-data will be checked at the time of interview. Incomplete bio-data or missing self-attested certificates can lead to your candidature not being considered, so double-check your documents before you go.
