About This Job
The High Court of Gujarat is hiring 65 Legal Assistants at its establishment in Sola, Ahmedabad. If you are a fresh law graduate (LL.B.) with at least 55% marks, you can apply online. This is a purely contractual job for 11 months (extendable by another 11 months) and pays a fixed Rs. 60,000 per month. The last date to apply online is 20 July 2026.
High Court of Gujarat Legal Assistant Recruitment 2026 - 65 Posts
The High Court of Gujarat has released Advertisement No. RC/B/1320/2026 (LA) for 65 Legal Assistant posts to help the Hon'ble Judges with legal research and court work. Because this is a contract-based role and not a permanent government job, reservation rules do not apply. Both fresh law graduates and final-year LL.B. students can apply, so it is a strong first step for young lawyers who want real court experience. The headquarters for the job is the High Court at Ahmedabad, and it is a full-time assignment — during your tenure you cannot practise as a lawyer or take up any other job. The appointment can be ended by either side with one month's notice, or one month's pay in place of notice.
Who Can Apply?
- Qualification: You must be a fresh graduate in law (LL.B.) with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent CGPA) from any University in India or a UGC-recognised institution.
- Final-year students: If you are in the final year of a 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. course, you can also apply. But you must pass with 55% marks before you join.
- Computer skills: You need basic knowledge of computer application and operation.
- Language: You should know Gujarati, the local language.
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
Note: Existing Legal Assistants who already hold an appointment order of 11 months or more from earlier recruitments are not eligible to apply again.
You will not be eligible if you have been dismissed from service by any Government or High Court, or convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude, or debarred by any High Court or Public Service Commission.
Age Limit
- You must not be more than 26 years old as on 20 July 2026.
- Candidates born after 20 July 2008 cannot apply, so you should be at least 18 years old.
- Since the posts are contractual, no age relaxation is given to reserved categories.
Salary
- You will get a fixed pay of Rs. 60,000 per month.
- This is a consolidated amount fixed by the State Government. There are no separate allowances because the post is contractual.
- You get 11 days of casual leave in a year, plus leave during court vacations with permission.
- If you travel for official work outside Ahmedabad, you get a daily allowance plus your actual travel fare.
Application Fee
- All candidates: Rs. 500 plus the usual bank charges.
- Payment mode: Online through SBI e-Pay on the HC-OJAS portal, using the "Print Application / Pay Fee" option.
Selection Process
Selection happens in two stages:
- Written Test (Objective Type - MCQs): 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours. Each correct answer gives 1 mark and there is negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong or multiple answer. The test is OMR-based and held in Ahmedabad. You need at least 50% marks to move to the next round.
- Viva-voce Test (Oral Interview): 50 marks. You must score at least 50% here to be included in the final select list.
The written test covers law subjects such as the Constitution of India, CPC, IPC/BNS, CrPC/BNSS, Evidence Act/BSA, Contract Act, Specific Relief Act, Transfer of Property Act and Limitation Act, along with General Knowledge, English, Computer Skills and General I.Q. If a very large number of candidates qualify the written test, the High Court may shortlist candidates by merit before the interview. The final select list is prepared on the basis of total marks from both the written test and the interview, according to merit.
