Directorate of Scheduled Caste Welfare, Gujarat (DSCW) Legal Advisor Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Directorate of Scheduled Caste Welfare, Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar has released an official advertisement to fill 1 Legal Advisor post on a contract basis for 11 months. The Directorate works under Gujarat's Social Justice and Empowerment Department and runs welfare schemes, scholarships, and legal protection programs for Scheduled Caste communities, including matters connected to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. There is no written exam for this post — you are shortlisted purely on qualification marks, experience, and a personal interview. This is a solid opportunity for law graduates and practicing advocates who want government-sector legal experience.

As the department's in-house Legal Advisor, you will handle legal opinions, court matters, and documentation connected with Scheduled Caste welfare schemes. This role suits candidates who want focused public-sector legal work and direct experience with a state government department.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must hold a Law Graduate (LLB) degree, or a higher qualification in law, from a recognized university or institution.
  • Preferred Qualification: If you have an LLM or PhD in Law, you get additional weightage in the merit list, calculated on the percentage you scored in that qualification.
  • Experience: Practice as an advocate in the High Court or a higher court is considered for merit marks. Your experience is counted from the date you registered with the Bar Council of Gujarat — experience gained elsewhere is not counted.
  • If you do not meet the required qualification or eligibility criteria, your application will be automatically rejected — no separate rejection notice will be sent to you.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit for this post is 55 years.

Salary

  • The selected candidate will get a fixed consolidated pay of Rs. 60,000 per month for the entire 11-month contract period.
  • This is a fixed remuneration — the notification does not mention any separate DA, HRA, or travel allowance on top of this amount.

Application Fee

  • All candidates: Rs. 250, payable as a Demand Draft.
  • Payment Mode: Demand Draft in favor of "Accounts Officer, Scheduled Caste Welfare, Gandhinagar", to be sent along with your application.
  • No separate fee exemption for reserved categories is mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this recruitment. You will be selected through a 100-mark merit list, built from four components:

  1. Qualification Marks (up to 40 marks): Based on the percentage you scored in your Law Graduate degree.
  2. Additional Qualification Marks (up to 15 marks): Extra marks if you hold an LLM or PhD in Law, calculated on the percentage scored in that qualification.
  3. Experience Marks (up to 30 marks): You get 1 mark for every completed year of practice as an advocate in the High Court or above, counted from your Bar Council of Gujarat registration date. A fraction of more than 6 months in a year also counts as a full year.
  4. Personal Interview (up to 15 marks): Covers your personality, knowledge of service matters, and understanding of laws relevant to Scheduled Castes — especially the Prevention of Atrocities Act and rules around Scheduled Caste certificates.
  5. Interview Call: If shortlisted, you will be informed about the interview date over email and phone, so make sure to mention an active email ID and mobile number in your application.

Note: The departmental committee has full authority over the interview and final selection. If no suitable candidate is found, the committee can close this selection process and re-advertise the post — the committee's decision on this will be final.
