District Court Ambala is hiring 49 Clerks on a six-month ad-hoc contract in Haryana. District Court Ambala Clerk Recruitment 2026 - 49 Posts

The Office of District and Sessions Judge, Ambala (under the Hon'ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh) has released a notification for 49 Clerk posts on ad-hoc basis. The engagement is for six months or until regular appointments are made, whichever is earlier. Reservation benefits apply only to candidates with Haryana domicile — reserved category candidates from other states will be treated as General. Graduates with Hindi background can apply by post, courier, or in person.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree (or equivalent) from a recognised university.
  • Language: You must have passed the Matriculation (10th) examination with Hindi as one of the subjects.
  • Domicile: Reservation benefits are restricted to Haryana domicile candidates only. Reserved category candidates from other states will be considered under General category.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 18 and 42 years old as on 1 January 2026.
  • Age Relaxation: Reserved category candidates get age relaxation as per reservation policies framed by the Government of Haryana and adopted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a fixed salary of Rs. 25,500 per month.
  • The engagement is purely on ad-hoc basis for six months or till regular appointments are made by the High Court — whichever is earlier.
  • No TA/DA is admissible for appearing in the examination.

Selection Process

The selection will happen in three stages:

  1. Written Examination (100 Marks, 2 hours): General Knowledge (50 marks objective), English Composition Objective (20 marks), and English Composition Subjective — Essay, Letter, Precis, Translation (30 marks). You must score at least 33% in each subject AND 40% in the aggregate to qualify.
  2. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) — Qualifying Only: Part I is a Spreadsheet/Excel test (10 minutes, 10 marks; need 40% i.e. 4 marks to qualify). Part II is an English Computer Typing Test at 30 WPM.
  3. Final Merit: The select list is prepared strictly on the basis of merit from the written examination. CPT marks are not counted in the final merit — they are only qualifying.

Responsibilities

  • Handle file processing, court records, and case-related documentation
  • Prepare letters, notices, and official correspondence in English and Hindi
  • Enter case data into the e-Courts system and maintain digital registers
  • Assist judicial officers and senior staff with daily administrative work
  • Manage incoming and outgoing dak (mail) and court communications
  • Maintain attendance, leave records, and other office registers
  • Follow court procedures and confidentiality rules at all times

Exam Pattern

The written exam carries 100 marks and you will get 2 hours to complete it.

Subject-wise Breakdown

  • General Knowledge (Objective): 50 marks
