The Chief Quality Assurance Establishment (Eastern Fleet Stores), functioning under the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) in the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, has announced recruitment for 8 Group C positions in Visakhapatnam. Who Can Apply?

For Stenographer Grade-II (5 Posts)

  • Qualification: You need to have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam from any recognised Board or University.
  • Skill Test: You must be able to take dictation at 80 words per minute for 10 minutes, and transcribe it in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi) on a computer.

For Civilian Motor Driver — Ordinary Grade (2 Posts)

  • Qualification: You need to have passed Matriculation (10th) or an equivalent exam from any recognised Board or University.
  • Driving Skills: You must hold a valid permanent driving license for cars and heavy vehicles, with professional skill in driving and knowledge of motor mechanics.
  • Experience: At least 4 years of driving experience is required.

For Carpenter (1 Post)

  • Qualification: You need to have passed Matriculation (10th) or an equivalent exam from any recognised Board or University.
  • Technical: You must have an ITI Certificate in Carpentry or an equivalent trade.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of work experience in the field is required.

Note: All selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years after joining.

Age Limit

  • Stenographer Grade-II: You should be between 18 and 27 years old.
  • Civilian Motor Driver (OG): You should be between 18 and 27 years old.

Salary

  • Stenographer Grade-II: Pay Level-4, salary ranges from Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 per month under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
  • CMD (OG) and Carpenter: Pay Level-2, salary ranges from Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200 per month under the 7th CPC.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, Transport Allowance and other benefits as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting: If too many applications are received, the department may shortlist candidates (20 or more per vacancy) based on marks in the qualifying examination.
  2. Written Exam (Objective Type — MCQ): The question paper will be based on 12th Standard CBSE syllabus, bilingual (except General English). Total 100 questions for 100 marks. No negative marking. Covers 4 subjects — General Intelligence & Reasoning (25), General Awareness (25), English Language & Comprehension (25), and Numerical Aptitude (25).
  3. Skill Test / Trade Test:
    • For Stenographer: Dictation at 80 wpm for 10 minutes, transcription in 50 min (English) / 65 min (Hindi) on computer. Only candidates who qualify the written test will be called.
    • For CMD (OG): Driving skills, motor mechanics knowledge, and general smartness for Heavy/Light vehicles will be tested.
    • For Carpenter: A trade test will be conducted in the field of work.

Merit list will be drawn based on written test marks only. Skill/trade tests are qualifying in nature.

Responsibilities

  • Handle correspondence, filing of papers, and maintaining office records in proper order
  • Take dictation in shorthand and transcribe it accurately on computer systems
  • Manage appointments, schedule meetings, and screen telephone calls for officers
  • Drive official vehicles (cars and heavy vehicles) safely for defence establishment duties
  • Maintain vehicles in good condition and carry out basic motor mechanic checks
  • Perform carpentry work including construction, repair and maintenance of wooden structures and fittings
  • Assist in quality assurance activities and documentation at the defence establishment
  • Follow all security protocols and government rules applicable to defence organisations

Exam Pattern

The written exam for all three posts follows the same pattern. It will be objective type (MCQ) based on 12th Standard CBSE syllabus. The paper will be bilingual (Hindi and English) except for the General English section.

Exam Structure (Same for All Posts)

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 25 questions, 25 marks
  • General Awareness: 25 questions, 25 marks

  • Numerical Aptitude: 25 questions, 25 marks

Total: 100 questions for 100 marks.

Negative Marking: No. There is no penalty for wrong answers.

After the Written Exam

  • Stenographer Grade-II: Skill test — Dictation at 80 wpm for 10 minutes, then transcription in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi) on computer. This is qualifying only.
  • CMD (OG): Driving test for Heavy and Light vehicles, plus motor mechanics knowledge assessment.
  • Carpenter: Trade test in carpentry field work.

The final merit list is based on written exam marks only. Skill and trade tests are qualifying in nature.

Tie-breaking rule: If two candidates score equal marks, the older candidate is placed higher. If still tied, the candidate with higher marks in Numerical Aptitude, then Reasoning, then General Awareness gets preference.
