Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Puri Wildlife Division Wildlife Veterinarian Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Puri Wildlife Division has invited applications for engagement of 1 Wildlife Veterinarian (also called Veterinary Surgeon) for its Mobile Veterinary Services (MVS) Unit. This is a purely contractual post with an initial engagement of 6 months, which can be extended, terminated early for unsatisfactory performance, or discontinued if funds are unavailable. Retired veterinarians with wildlife experience are also welcome to apply, making this a good opportunity for both fresh graduates and experienced professionals interested in wildlife healthcare.

Why This Role Matters

Odisha has seen a rise in the unusual morbidity and mortality of wild elephants and other wildlife, along with a growing number of man-animal conflict cases. Wild animals in reserve areas also face increasing risk from various human-driven factors. The Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU) you would join is meant to provide on-priority wildlife healthcare and disease control services in the Puri Wildlife Division area. In an emergency, your services could also be deployed to nearby forest divisions within the Bhubaneswar Circle, on the recommendation of the DFO, Puri Wildlife Division. Since wildlife management is treated as an emergency service, you should be prepared to perform duties as per the requirement, including outside normal working hours.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need an M.V.Sc or B.V.Sc & A.H. (Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry) degree.
  • Candidates with a Master's Degree and experience in Wildlife Management will be given preference.
  • Experience: Retired veterinarians with wildlife experience can also apply and will be engaged by following due procedure.
  • Residence: This is a resident post — the selected candidate has to stay at Puri or Konark.

Veterinary Services You Will Provide:

  • Treat wild animals at the site of detection, including tranquilization and sedation when needed.
  • Refer complicated cases to the Chief District Veterinary Officer or the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, OUAT, Bhubaneswar.
  • Detect communicable and non-communicable diseases in wild animals at an early stage.
  • Review and monitor preventive vaccination of livestock and poultry in forest fringe areas.
  • Carry out on-spot examination of fecal, blood, urine, and skin samples.
  • Collect ante-mortem and post-mortem samples and send them to the referral laboratory for diagnosis.
  • Create public health awareness through village meetings, leaflets, and pamphlets on bio-security.

Salary

  • You will get a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 60,000, inclusive of TA, DA, and other allowances.
