CSIR-NEIST, a constituent institute of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has advertised 10 Project Staff positions (Advertisement No. 09/2026-27-HRD) across 6 ongoing research projects in chemistry and materials science. The institute carries out multidisciplinary research in Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Materials Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Geological Sciences, backed by advanced analytical facilities. All positions are purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, running up to 31 March 2027, with a maximum overall tenure of 6 years across CSIR projects. These six projects span some of CSIR-NEIST's core chemistry research areas. Post Codes 01 and 05 work on catalyst and composite material design for clean energy and healthcare applications. Post Codes 02 and 03 study bimetallic catalysts for green hydrogen production from ammonia — Post Code 03 is the senior-level position on the same project and needs prior research experience. Post Code 04 continues work on cost-effective, environment-friendly methods to prepare Hepatitis medicines. Post Code 06, the largest group with 3 posts, focuses on breaking down lignin into useful aromatic compounds and formic acid through catalytic reaction engineering.
Who Can Apply?
For Project Associate-I posts (9 vacancies, Post Codes 01, 02, 04, 05, 06):
- You need an MSc in Chemistry or a related discipline such as Chemical Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science, Nanoscience, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology (varies by project — see table above).
For Senior Project Associate post (1 vacancy, Post Code 03):
- You need a Master's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences plus 3 years of research experience in an academic/R&D institution or university.
- Experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry and Schlenk line techniques is preferred.
- You should have basic knowledge of computers for day-to-day project work.
- Candidates awaiting their final result should not apply. If you are currently working at CSIR-NEIST, you must get a No Objection Certificate before applying for another project vacancy.
Age Limit
- Project Associate-I posts: maximum 35 years as on the date of the walk-in interview.
- Senior Project Associate post: maximum 40 years as on the date of the walk-in interview.
- Age Relaxation: As applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Women candidates as per Government of India/CSIR rules.
Salary
- Post Code 01 & 05: Rs. 31,000/month + 10% HRA (for CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET or GATE qualified) or Rs. 25,000/month + 10% HRA (for others)
- Post Code 02, 04 & 06: Rs. 25,000/month + HRA
- Post Code 03 (Senior Project Associate): Rs. 42,000/month + HRA

Selection Process
The selection is done through:
- Walk-in Interview: Held on 3 August 2026, with separate time slots for each post code (10:00 AM to 12:30 PM onwards).
- Document Verification: You must bring all original testimonials, mark sheets, certificates, Aadhar Card, and your Institute/College/University ID card.
Due weightage is given to your academic performance and experience during selection. Some selected Project Staff may also be allowed to pursue their Ph.D. based on CSIR guidelines while working on the project. Responsibilities
- Carry out experimental and analytical work for the assigned research project
- Synthesize and characterize chemical compounds, catalysts or polymer materials as required
- Record and analyse experimental data accurately
- Assist the Project Investigator with reports, publications and documentation
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in the project
- Follow institute safety protocols while handling chemicals and lab equipment
- Coordinate with the research team on project timelines and deliverables
