Cabinet Secretariat Assistant Library and Information Officer Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India is looking for one Assistant Library and Information Officer (ALIO) to work in its library at Seva Teerth, New Delhi. It is a Group B Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post in the General Central Service, and it is filled only on deputation — so you must already be a regular government officer to be considered.

The vacancy was first notified on 3 July 2026, and the Secretariat has now extended the deadline. If you are a librarian in a Central or State Government office or a Union Territory administration and want a stint in the country's top coordinating office, this is a good opening.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Who can be considered: officers of the Central or State Governments or Union Territories who either hold an analogous post on a regular basis, or have five years of regular service in the feeder grade named in the circular in their parent cadre.
• Library experience: along with a library science degree, you need two years of professional work in a library of a government office, autonomous or statutory body, PSU, university or recognised research or educational institution.
• Desirable extras: a master's degree in Library (and Information) Science or a Diploma in Computer Applications will help your case.
• Tenure: deputation is for three years; counted together with any ex-cadre deputation held just before this one, it should ordinarily not go beyond three years.
• Terms of deputation: governed by DoP&T O.M. No. DOPT-1726140763694 dated 28 March 2024.
• No withdrawal: once you apply, you cannot withdraw your candidature later.
• Proof needed: applications without documents backing the qualification and experience you claim will not be processed for eligibility.
