BSIP Scientist B Recruitment 2026: Overview

Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP) is adding Scientist B posts to its regular scientific cadre in Lucknow. The autonomous institute works under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and studies the history of life, changing environments and Earth systems across geological time. This recruitment suits researchers who want to combine field investigation, laboratory analysis and publication-led science in a national palaeoscience centre.

BSIP's work reaches beyond traditional fossil studies. Its programmes connect palaeobotany, palaeontology, geochemistry, palaeoclimatology and Quaternary science with newer areas such as ancient DNA, planetary science, artificial intelligence and geospatial modelling. Scientists may take part in systematic field investigations in varied geological settings, including polar regions.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Regular cadre: This is a regular scientific appointment, with selected candidates initially serving a two-year probation period. Continuation depends on satisfactory completion of probation.
• Pension and benefits: Appointees come under the New Pension Scheme and receive the usual institute allowances on the Government of India pattern.
• Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum academic and research conditions does not automatically secure an interview. A Screening Committee will recommend candidates, and BSIP's shortlisting decision is final.
• Vacancy position: The institute may vary the number of posts or decide not to fill some or all of them.
• Current employees: People working in government, public-sector or autonomous bodies must route their applications through the proper channel within the prescribed period.
• Interview travel: BSIP will not pay TA/DA for attending the personal interview, and requests to change an allotted interview date or slot will not be accepted.
• Jurisdiction: Recruitment-related legal proceedings are restricted to the courts in Lucknow and the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.

The envelope must say "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF SCIENTIST 'B'" and reach the Registrar, Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, 53 University Road, Lucknow 226007, by 11 September 2026 at 5:30 PM.

If you applied under the earlier Scientist B advertisement, your earlier application remains on record, but you must complete the new online form and send its hard copy again.
