BITS Pilani JRF Hydrogen Sensors Recruitment 2026: Overview

Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) is hiring a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) team at its Pilani campus for a hydrogen-sensor research project in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) Department. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) supports this work through the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with the appointment handled under Grants Consultancy and Industrial Research (GCIR).

The project brings together two-dimensional materials and 4H-SiC nanocomposite thin films for the development of trace-resilient, self-powered hydrogen sensors. This is a contractual research engagement, with an application-focused project that connects device modelling, materials work and testing outside the laboratory.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project setting: Your appointment belongs to the hydrogen-sensor project at the Pilani campus. The notice describes strategic applications as the intended setting for the technology, so the research connects the behaviour of the sensor materials with the needs of a working device.
  • Research direction: The project combines theoretical device simulations using COMSOL or technology computer-aided design (TCAD), thin-film growth, device fabrication and real-field testing. These parts belong to the same research programme: the notice presents them together as the route towards the sensor performance the project aims to achieve.
  • Supervision: Prof. Satyendra Kumar Mourya is the principal investigator, and Prof. Dheerendra Singh is the co-principal investigator. Both investigators are in the EEE Department, which places the project within the campus's electrical and electronics research work.
  • Project duration: The advertised project tenure is three years. The appointment is temporary and purely contractual, so you should read the engagement in the context of this funded project and its stated duration.
  • Possible continuation: The notice allows an extension if the position converts to a PhD at BITS Pilani, based on performance. This is a conditional possibility; the advertisement does not promise an extension or automatic admission to a doctoral programme.
  • Funding-agency collaboration: The fellow will work closely with MNRE to keep the research relevant to practical applications and the mission. The emphasis is on connecting the project's research with its intended use, alongside the work carried out at BITS Pilani.

Application Submission Notes

Send your application by email to satyendra.mourya@pilani.bits-pilani.ac.in. Use the subject line Application for JRF- MNRE Project so your message identifies the advertised project. The notice prescribes email submission; the careers webpage is a source of information rather than the application route.

Responsibilities

  • Run COMSOL or TCAD simulations for hydrogen-sensor devices.
  • Develop thin films using 2D materials and 4H-SiC nanocomposites.
  • Fabricate self-powered hydrogen-sensor devices.
  • Test sensor performance under real-field conditions.
  • Compare simulation results with fabricated-device performance.
  • Coordinate application-focused research with the investigators and MNRE.
