Bangalore University (BU) Guest Faculty Recruitment 2026 - Multiple P.G. Departments

Bangalore University (BU), a NAAC A++ accredited university, has invited applications for Full-time and Part-time Guest Faculty positions across its Post Graduate departments, based on the existing workload in each department for academic year 2026-27. Vacancies are open across more than 25 subjects including Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Economics, Kannada, History, and Political Science, spread across the Jnanabharathi campus and the P.G. Centre in Ramanagara. These are temporary, workload-based positions that end when a permanent lecturer is appointed or at the close of academic year 2026-27, whichever comes first. The university has reserved the right to select or reject a candidate for any post depending on how much teaching workload is actually available in that department once classes begin.

Departments With Guest Faculty Openings

You can apply for a guest faculty position in any of these P.G. departments, based on the workload available in each:

Jnanabharathi Campus:

  • Arts & Languages: History, Philosophy, Urdu, Visual Arts, Sanskrit, Telugu, Social Work
  • Sciences: Chemistry, Environmental Science, Psychology, Bio-Chemistry, Botany, Geology, Physics, Statistics, Geography, Electronic Science, Genetics & Forensic Science
  • Education

P.G. Centre Ramanagara:

  • Kannada, Economics, Development Studies, History, Political Science

Note: The number of guest faculty positions in each department depends on the actual teaching workload. Bangalore University reserves the right to select or reject a candidate based on availability, and it is a good idea to check with the concerned department chairperson before applying if you have a specific department in mind.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need NET/SLET or a Ph.D as the minimum criteria under UGC Regulations 2018 (clause 3.10) and the amendment notification dated 30 June 2023.
  • Education Pattern: You must have followed the 10+2+3+2 pattern of education.
  • Exemption: If NET/SLET/SET is not conducted for your subject, this requirement will not apply to you.
  • Domicile for Reserved Categories: Only SC/ST/OBC candidates from Karnataka can apply under reserved categories, with a valid caste certificate from a competent authority in Karnataka.
  • Nature of Appointment: This is a purely temporary position valid only for academic year 2026-27. Your appointment ends automatically when a permanent lecturer joins the post, or at the close of the academic session, whichever happens first.
  • Multiple Departments: If you want to be considered for more than one department, you must fill and submit a separate application for each department.

Salary

  • Guest faculty pay is linked to teaching hours rather than a fixed monthly salary. Full-time guest faculty with NET/SLET/Ph.D can teach up to 16 hours a week (64 hours a month), while Ph.D holders without NET/SLET can teach a minimum of 8 hours a week.
  • If you are appointed as a full-time guest faculty with NET/SLET/Ph.D, your services will be used for the whole academic year, and in return you will be expected to assist the department's Director, Chairperson, or Co-ordinator with academic, administrative, and examination work, and to publish one paper in a refereed journal during the year.
  • Guest faculty will not get allowances, pension, gratuity, or leave benefits available to regular teaching staff.
  • Once selected, you will be liable to work at either the Jnanabharathi campus or the P.G. Centre Ramanagara, based on where the university needs you.

Application Fee

  • General / Other Categories: Rs. 200
  • SC / ST / Category-1: Rs. 100
  • Payment Mode: Fee is to be paid to the University as part of the online application process.

Selection Process

Selection is based on 1 stage:

  1. Interview (with Demo Class): You will be asked to deliver a demo class as part of the interview, so it helps to prepare a short lesson in your subject in advance. The concerned department chairperson or co-ordinator will directly inform you of the interview date and time, so keep your contact details updated in your application.
