Responsibilities
- Patrol the assigned forest beat and record field observations
- Report illegal tree cutting, encroachment and suspicious activity
- Support forest fire prevention and response work
- Help protect wildlife and forest produce
- Keep beat records and report incidents to supervising officers
- Assist with planting and care of young trees

Exam Pattern
The objective papers carry 200 marks in total. You also take a separate qualifying descriptive essay.
- Qualifying essay: 1 question, 50 marks, 45 minutes. Write in English, Telugu or Urdu on a theme related to forests and the environment.
- Paper I, General Studies and Mental Ability: 100 questions, 100 marks, 100 minutes. Covers science, current affairs, history, geography, polity, economy, reasoning, environment and disaster management.
- Paper II, General Science and General Mathematics: 100 questions, 100 marks, 100 minutes, at SSC standard. Science and mathematics each carry 50 marks.
Negative marking: A wrong objective answer loses 1/3 of the marks allotted to that question.
Exam format: The notice specifies a single-level computer-based recruitment test (CBRT), with no screening test regardless of application numbers. APPSC may normalise marks if the examination runs in multiple sessions; the method will be announced separately.
Further assessments: The Forest Department arranges a walking test and Medical Board examination with APPSC concurrence. Candidates are called in a 1:2 ratio against vacancies.
Computer Proficiency Test
The practical office-automation test carries 100 marks, and you get 60 minutes. Minimum qualifying marks are 30 for SC/ST, 35 for BC and 40 for OC.
- Computer fundamentals: 20% of marks; this part may use multiple-choice questions.
- Typing speed: 25%; qualifying treatment follows the applicable norms.
- Document organisation and objects: 15%.
- Spreadsheets: 20%.
- Presentations: 20%.
