AIIMS Awantipora Senior Resident Recruitment 2026: Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Awantipora (AIIMS Awantipora) is filling Senior Resident and Senior Demonstrator posts across 31 medical departments and specialties under the Central Residency Scheme. Since the new AIIMS in south Kashmir is still building its clinical faculty base, AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu is inviting and processing applications on Awantipora's behalf — shortlisted candidates report to the Jammu campus for the interview even though the actual posting is at Awantipora. Trauma & Emergency Medicine carries the largest single share of posts in this drive, while most other specialties have far fewer seats. MD/MS/DNB/DM/M.Ch holders (or M.Sc./Ph.D holders for the non-medical Demonstrator route) can apply for a tenure of up to three years.

• Microbiology, Biochemistry, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Pathology and Paediatrics: spanning both clinical and diagnostic departments.
• Anaesthesia, Anatomy, Cardiology, Community Medicine, Dentistry, Dermatology, ENT, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pharmacology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Physiology, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank and Urology: the remaining specialties spanning medicine, surgery and diagnostics.
• Anatomy, Biochemistry and Pharmacology also accept non-medical candidates holding an M.Sc./M.Biotech plus a Ph.D in the subject, appointed as Senior Demonstrators alongside the medical MD/DNB route.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: Senior Residency is capped at three years in total, including any time already served as Senior Resident in the same specialty at another teaching institution.
• Eligibility check: candidates are called for interview without prior scrutiny of eligibility — documents are verified only on the interview day, so an ineligible candidate can be turned away on the spot without notice.
• Departmental candidates: those already working in a government hospital or institution must apply through the proper channel or carry a No Objection Certificate to the interview.
• One post per application: you can apply for only one specialty at a time — applying for more than one requires a separate application form and a separate fee for each.
• Performance review: any tenure extension beyond the first or second year depends on the recommendation of a review committee.
